Subject: How to apply texture to clothes just with obj file?

Francemi ( ) posted Wed, 19 May 2004 at 11:52 PM · edited Wed, 20 November 2024 at 4:27 AM

Hello, I'd like to know how I can apply a texture to a piece of clothing that has only an obj file. I figured out how to create a texture map for it but I can't apply it. My test clothing is Koshini's princess dress. I went into the material room and connected the texture to the two first values but it doesn't work. Must be missing something... Thanks. France

Is it the princess dress from Motsura? And is it UVMapped? If it isn't UVMapped you can't make a texturemap stay on it, but you can colour it with the paintbucket tool.

You just can't put the words "Poserites" and "happy" in the same sentence - didn't you know that? LaurieA

I don't know who made the dress, it came from Daz. And it is not UVmapped. I used the UV mapper to create a texture map which looks exactly like other maps I've seen, but the dress won't accept it. I know I can color it with the paintbucket tool but I'd like to apply some texture to it, if possible. France

You made the UV map, fine. Now save the template and the model, give it a different name than the original. Now open up the clothing cr2 and change the two resfigure line to reflect the name of the new obj. Save under different name. When you open Poser you should have the shrugging man in you libraries, no problem, click on it to bring in the new clothing, apply the texture, it may look horrible depending on how it was mapped. From now on it's trial and error on getting the texture correct. Look for texturing tuts, thay explaine this in more depth and detail. Happy texturing :)

I must remember to remember what it was I had to remember.

You can also create surface material groups for your prop/figure inside Poser itself with the grouping tool. As always, Dr. Geep has a good tutorial on this. Unzipped

I must say that if you've got the dress from Daz it sounds highly improbable that it isn't allready UVmapped. What dress is it? And are there really no textures included with it when you get it?

Well I think I got it in the free section of Daz but it is Motsura Koshini princess dress (two parts, blouse and skirt). Then again, maybe I didn't get it from Daz. I bought and downloaded so many things for Poser that... ;o) France

Don't thank me, thank firstly Dr. Geep for writing the best Poser tutorials there are, and the folks at fallencity.net for hosting. I'm just passing on info others around here were good enough to point me at. As I've said before - those tutorials merit a permanent link at the top of the Poser forum here. Maybe it'll happen some day. Unzipped

I agree that there should be more publicity about this. Like I said earlier, I searched for tutorials but so far, I hadn't found any "good" ones for beginners. France

Thanks everyone! I finally succeeded in applying a texture to Koshini princess dress (well the top only but now that I know how...). There was nothing that helped me in the tutorials from Dr.Geep but those tutorials look great and I can't wait till next Tuesday when I have time to do some of them. ;o) Anyway, here is the result of all my DOs and UNDOs in UVmapper, PaintShopPro and Poser. I'm very happy about it. The texture I applied tonight is only a test texture I created very fast until I could apply it to that top. Next week I'll create nice textures for it. France
