Subject: Poll: Which Skin texture for Cherokee character

RnRWoman ( ) posted Thu, 20 May 2004 at 7:54 AM · edited Wed, 25 December 2024 at 11:20 PM

Hi all;

Yeah, it's me again looking for some help for my Cherokee RPG Pooser character. Hehe. I'm having a time trying to find a suitable texture for a younger Cherokee texture. While Morris' "Kimi" texture is excellent -- I have tried it and it doesn't seem to make her look young enough, and is more suitable adults and not young adults (such as in their 20's.) So I'm trying to look for a texture that I can either combine w/ it (for personal use only of course) -- or to use standing alone. It's hard to find just the right skin tone, as I want to be as accurate as I can. And not many texture makers have made many Native American skin tones.

Could you all please vote which you think is the best? These have "sorta" come close:

Morris' Sonja:

Thanks in advance! :) God Bless! ~RnRWoman~

Had you thought about adjusting the underlying colour of the skin to change the skin tone? I almost always change this, and get a lot of variation from a limited set of textures. It's not really possible to lighten a texture within Poser (although you can do so by pulling it into a painting software package), but you can darken it and add overall colour tone.

I believe there's a utility available in the Marketplace for changing the object colour (the underlying skin colour) this way without changing the texture map applied, and some textures come with MAT pose files to apply underlying shading as well as applying the texture itself. It's almost as easy to do the same thing in the Render Materials window or the Material Room (depending on your version of Poser).

That way you could pick a texture that gives the right youthful look, then shade it to get the skin tone you want. :)

Hey! Thanks for your reply! Yeah, actually I have tried changing the underlying layer (I assume you mean the MAT color?) and still have got unsatisfactory results. Whenever I change the MAT color it makes the texture not as sharp and a bit muted. But I suppose I could play around w/ it more if I find something close. Both of these textures seem to look more youthful, but I can't decide which one. Danae's new texture looks like it might work and I tried changing the color of the skin with her promo pic and it worked pretty well. Thanks for your suggestions! :) ~RnRWoman~

Over at RuntimeDNA freestuff,Travler has several sets of "skin tone change" pose files. He also has sets of "reflective skin changes" that include the reflective matts. Useing them,it's amazing how many "looks" you can get from just one texture. SWAMP

Thanks for your suggestion, Swamp! I've got the "skin tone change" pose files from Runtime DNA, I think. I had downloaded the reflective MATS, but I couldn't get them to work right. Maybe I had something set wrong when I tried. I might try again. :) ~RnRWoman~

You do need to play with them a bit, as they do have a variety of settings. Take a look at Stormi's new Katlisa texture and see what you think...a dark(er) skin, very young look. SWAMP

Hey, Swamp! :) Yeah, I think I'll try to play around with the settings soon. Thanks for the link to Stormi's new Katlisa texture! I actually considered this texture when I was looking at it earlier. I still might be considering it. Thanks again! ~RnRWoman~

Have you looked at Kimmiela by morris and stacey73? She's based on pictures of a Sioux woman,

Yep, I have. I have purchased that texture a long time ago. But I feel while the texture is really nice -- it isn't youthful enough for the char I have in mind. Thanks for the link tho! :) God Bless! ~RnRWoman~

Have you tried bringing a texture you like into a paint program (PS, PSP) and altering the tone/colour?

Intel Core i7-2600 CPU @ 3.40GHz, 12.0GB RAM, AMD Radeon HD 7770

I like that second one. It seems to be younger and a tad darker than that first one. Good luck with your RPG figure.

Sonja would work...and she render beautifully but honestly native american woman by nature look more aged even young...something to consider...my husband is part native american and most of his family is women...and they all (young or old) seem to have a wise mature look about them...IMHO....so Morris's texture could work in the long run...but personally I haven't used that one...Sonja on the other hand, I have used a bunch of times and it really is a gorgeous texture...I just am having trouble picturing how she would look as a native american...I think she would work...hmmmmmmmm???

Thank you for your input about the Sonja texture, Ann! I bought Danae's new texture earlier and messed with the tones. It looks pretty kewl. Sonja maybe the one I try next if I can't get good results. Now I need to find more reference pictures! :) Anyone know some sites where I could find some? I've asked before but I still haven't found much luck. I find what helps tho is looking up artwork or portraits as well. God Bless! :) ~RnRWoman~
