Hello again!

Ok, so now I finally figured out (with lots of help from you friends here) how to apply a texture to an object that wasn't mapped.

I created a Christmas texture for Koshini princess dress so I'll have time, before next Christmas, to correct the errors in it. It looks fine from the back and the front but when I look at her from the sides, she is too fat and stretch the seams ;o)

But I'll do Dr.Geep's tutorials and I'm sure I'll learn how to create seamless textures.

Anyway, here is my first real texturized blank object.

Many thanks to all of you who helped me doing this.

Try a cylindrical map. That way you only have one seam, up the back, rather than seams on each side. Ages ago, Symphony remapped the P4 formal cylindrically, and it made a load of difference! Carolly

I will, thanks. I had tried the spherical map and the sleeves texture was stretched. That's why I tried planar this time. I'll check it now with spherical to see if it will be easy as planar or difficult as spherical to select the correct parts in PSP to create the texture. I'll let you know the result! France

Really beautiful. But try turning down the shinyness of the bows, they look a little plasticy now, and the rest looks like very nice velvet-like cloth so the bows detract a bit from the otherwise beautiful look :o)

Since you're remapping it anyway, tou could split it, make a material zone for the sleeves and one for the rest. Then map the sleeves spherical (ince they're mostly round) and the dress itself cylindrical.

You just can't put the words "Poserites" and "happy" in the same sentence - didn't you know that? LaurieA

Hum... that's getting quite complicated for me. ;o) I tried creating a cylindrical map but I couldn't figure out how to texturize it. I'll try your suggestion though. I still have SO MUCH to learn! Oh and how do I turn down the shinyness of the bows? I wanted to do that but I couldn't find out how. Thanks! France

Now I forgot if you use Poser 4 or 5, but in both cases it's the specularity you should adjust. set the specularity to black and the bows won't be shiny any more :o)

Thanks! And I use Poser 5. I just hated that shinyness on the bows so now I'll be able to fix it. I noticed when I did another model, that the ribbon at the waist was not shiny and looked like it was satin but I checked the material settings for the ribbon then for the bows and I couldn't figured out what was the difference... must have been the specular color then. ;o) When you say "split it" (the map), I guess that is in UVmapper... How do I do that? France

Er.. the easiest way is to start with a planar map (not split in front and back) then select the sleeves and assign a new material to them (I hope this is possible in the free version too, but I think so) and then map them and afterwards incverse the selection and map the rest of it cylindrically. I'm afraid I'm not good at explaining. I am better "hands on" when I have to teach anyone anything :o(

I don't know what happened, I posted a reply and it doesn't show. If I see it is duplicated, I'll delete this one. ;o)

I created the planar map then tried to select only the sleeves but I can't. I can select by group (and there is no group that includes only the sleeves) or by material (again, the sleeves are part of the top material). I couldn't find a way to select manually other than by rectangle (which is no use for selecting the sleeves) and I didn't find a way to add something to a selection or take a part out of a selection.

Attached is a screenshot of the planar map with the selection "by material" applied. Maybe it will help you help me. ;o)

Thanks!

Hmm perhaps it would be easier to seledt the sleeves inside Poser, with the grouping tool. Then you could assign a material to them there and THEN map them in UVMapper :o) I see the way the polygons cross each other it will be hard to separate the sleeves here.
