THE PLACE FOR ALL THINGS BRYCE - GOT A PROBLEM? YOU'VE COME TO THE RIGHT PLACE

Subject: Sci-Fi Tower Movie.

Attached Link: Tower Movie.

Thanks for the comments on my recent pictures. [ ![GalleryThumb676434.jpg](http://www.renderosity.com/photos/GAL_200405/GalleryThumb676434.jpg)](viewed.ez?galleryid=676434&Start=1&Artist=drawbridgep&ByArtist=Yes)

My computer happily spent today working on an animation of the tower (while I was unhappily working). It's 4meg, but if you're really bored and have nothing better to do, you might want to take a look.

Thanks Phil.

Interesting effect...

Yeah, took a while to render the buttons. That's a bit weird.

Worked for me, Great animation tho alittle fast. The view up is a cool ride.

drawbridgep ( ) posted Sat, 22 May 2004 at 1:13 PM

Yeah, it is a little fast in the second half. I wanted to get to the top within ten seconds, so had to fly up there. Glad you like it.

woah! nice :)

Dead_Last ( ) posted Sat, 22 May 2004 at 1:27 PM

Very nice job. What was the fps? It seemed somewhat unsmooth in some parts but I think that may have just been my crappy comp.

drawbridgep ( ) posted Sat, 22 May 2004 at 1:29 PM

Whatever the Bryce default is. 15? I converted to MPG to cut it down from 110meg AVI to a 4meg MPG. You think that's unsmooth, you should see the AVI running.

Impressive...a great sense of scale achieved. Have to agree about the speed toward the top but still fab!

Never did any animations, great job, man !!! :)

Still can't get this to work. (I didn't get to see the 'airport flythrough either.) Does this make any sense to you?

drawbridgep ( ) posted Sat, 22 May 2004 at 4:30 PM

It's a strange one. I use a little program WinMPG http://www.winmpg.com/ to convert the AVI. Maybe the MPG they create is slightly unusual. Sorry you've not been able to view the movies. (You're not missing much though)

WinMPG by DirectSoft? If so that's probably it... I got my $30 back from them for the compatability issues and lack of support. "In converting a .WMV to .AVI I find that the video portion comes out twice as long (or at half speed depending on your perspective) while the audio portion stays the same length and speed. That just doesnt seem right. Comments?" Order number 12302002-51871-967 has been refunded in the amount of $30.00.

I'm using an old demo that only converts the first 5 minutes (but I never create a movie longer than that anyway). SO didn't cost a dime.

Here's a preview of tomorrows picture to make up for the problems you've had (ok, small consolation, but I just finished and want to show it off and can't post it to my gallery for 8 hours).

Its okay. Im game

The station is integrated into the terrain? Cool Reminiscent of James Blishs Cities in Flight is that where you were headed?

Blish might be more commonly recognized for the 22 volumes of Star Trek adaptations he produced, but Cities in Flight, which is a compendium of four of his novels published around 1950, has been called an Interstellar Grapes of Wrath and has to be considered an essential classic, at least by me. Over 50 years ago Blish put together a continuity that stretches from its beginning in the political pork barrel projects of a Jupiter mining mission and pharmaceutical research, through the collapse of the cold war the rise of a global geopolitical business bureaucracy, the elevation of the cult of technology, the lifting of whole cities and industrial complexes into space for migrant work, a galactic currency collapse, right through to the end of the universes (plural) but not the end of time or creation. Not too shabby considering its almost 55 years old. And it still holds up, albeit not as seamlessly to our heightened sense of technological scrutiny and critical inspection, but its relative impact remains undiminished.

Thats the gallery post comments I wrote for my Skybergenisis image that I never put up.

Want to license it for your post tomorrow?

Is the station integrated into the terrain, or the other way around? I don't recognise the name. But this is based on an image I saw in a book about 20 years ago. So who knows, maybe it is. The third image I posted to Rosity (back in March 03) is very similar. But I like to think my skills have improved in some small way.

And no, I won't licence your eloquent text. I'd much rather steal it.

actually, there's a series of Novels by (I think) Greg Bear; one's named Eon, as I remember, about an infinitely long tunnel through both an asteroid and also other dimensions..the concept sounds a lot like this picture looks..great work, whatever the source..

I wish I'd said that.. The Staircase Wit

Windwos Media Encoder 7.1 makes WMV files pretty good and small. I also use VirtualDub and save in DivX format which is even better.
