There are programs like that. Deep Paint and BodyPaint (IIRC) but both are pretty expensive. You can also use UVMapper Pro together with photoshop and get sorta the same effect (I haven't tried it myself but it should work) Most people do like you do. It is tedious to make textures :o)

I use UVMapper Pro to give me almost instant feedback of how my texture looks when working in Photoshop. By almost I mean that I have a two click Photoshop action set up to copy the current texture over to UVMapper.I have done a couple of textures for a helicopter. i have found that, with poser you dont have to reload the texture each time.
I work in PSP so that i can use layers then save out (I belive photoshop has a "save for the web") as a jpg (overwriting the texture file loaded in poser each time) and when i want to test it I just pop over (alt tab) to poser and tell it to reneder (ctrl r). It rereads the texture file each time and updates itself (at least it does in P5, i dont know about anything else).
no need to open the texture over and over.
you'll still end up with both running at the same time, but it wont cost you anything (financialy)

UVMapper Pro will allow you to do this but... It doesn't update properly on textures above 1000 x 1000 pixels, which makes it less than useful for skin textures, which are generally around the 4000 x 3000 (or higher) mark. I generally bite the bullet and have Photoshop and Poser open at the same time. It can get "interesting" (in the Chinese curse sense) when you have a texture with a lot of layers.

I have a gig of RAM in my system and I still have to stop every once and a while to close Poser and then re-open the test scene because Poser starts ignoring the updates after a while for some reason. I'm working the same way Tyger, I use the same test texture map name, saving it over and over so I don't have to tell Poser anything except Render. I've had as many as 30 layers in Photoshop at one time without too much problem.
Ah, you guys are wimps! I have photoshop, poser5 lightwave modeler, and outlook express open on a regular basis! I have a gig of ram, and usually don;t run into too many problems... Except the other day, when I saved (or thought I saved) my WIP Millenium Puss character. I tried to open it up the following day, and P5 musta just finally choked and corrupted the file. I had already saved the props separately, so it only really added a hour or two of work, but I think what really killed things was I didn't have enough swap file on my C drive..I started getting those "not enough space" warnings from windows. I cleared some up whule working, but I probably should have shut everything down, and rebooted. Next time, I heed the warnings... ;)

Yeah I keep thinking of replacing my dcd reader with a new HD (I also have a dvd writer as well.) I've yet to copy one single dvd since I got this system, and the wife has a duplicate version of my system anyway, if we finally do find a reason to copy a dvd.

Well I've gotten to the point now where I'm starting to add some variation by altering a few textures for my renders -- adding tattoos and birthmarks and whatnot mostly. So far I've found the process sorta cumbersome. How I do it is I open the texture in Photoshop, do my work on it, then save it and load it on a character in Poser to see the result. Basically I have both Poser and Photoshop open at the same time and save and load the texture multiple times as I work on it. Takes a while that way, plus my system is all bogged down and flipping out trying to keep Poser and Photoshop open. For the most part, I feel like I'm making this too hard! Is that how you people do your work on textures too? I'm thinking there must be some kind of program out there where you load your texture on the character and do your work directly on the figure. Does that make sense? Sort of like airbrushing directly onto someone, except in Poser. That's what I have in mind. Anyways, is there a program like this?
