No more "what's new" or "what's on sale" sections?

philebus ( ) posted Wed, 26 May 2004 at 5:25 PM

I hope the absence of "what's new" is a glitch to be fixed - I do most of my shopping from this option!

dialyn ( ) posted Wed, 26 May 2004 at 5:28 PM

I think you have to go into each individual section to find "what's new" so that it is product specific. I do the same thing, philebus. I check the "what's new" almost every day.

Carcinogen ( ) posted Wed, 26 May 2004 at 5:29 PM

Same here.

CraigMunden ( ) posted Wed, 26 May 2004 at 5:35 PM

I don't like it I'm afraid - it's FAR too 'busy'/confusing. And like everyone else, I shop using 'What's New'. Ho Hum!

LillianH ( ) posted Wed, 26 May 2004 at 5:41 PM

Hang tight. We are still working on the migration. Once that is complete we can address any concerns. There will be a "What's New" for all products. Just hang tight, we're getting there. Best wishes, LillianH Renderosity Marketing & Promotions

Its a bloody extreme makeover allright. First I blow 40 USD in the RMP. Then I notice that whatever new, fabulous implementation of downloader happily overwrites any download I have in the download queue, i,e I bought A-One's long, and it got overwritten by something else I bought, only allowing for ONE download at a time. This is ridiculous. When I notice this, I of course click download again, and get told I have exceeded my # of downloads and to contact an admin. you score 10 for the willingness to change the marketplace after two years. But minus several hundred to do a system rollover during peak purchasing hours from your audience. I expect this to be fixed, and my downloads reset asap, yes ? ~S

during peak purchasing hours for your customers??? When is not a peak purchasing hours? We're all over the globe. They aren't done yet. We should just chill until they have a chance to finish.

I know you're all over the globe, Dialyn, but the majority of your purchasers are in the American timezones, unlike me.

And even though I obviously do not share your towering wealth of knowledge and experience on such matters, it is fairly wellknown that the RMP flyer goes out on Wednesdays - in fact I'd been wondering where it was tonight.

Anyway - hoping for fix and no more admonitions from the local apologia patrol.

Edit: And re the chill; As I said, kudos for a change of face. Not kudos for doing it in hours with high traffic. And with that - I am out of the thread, I know Lillian wanted to make a happy statement, and I wanted to point out there was an error - not to let it derail.

I don't like the new setup either because I can't find out what the new products are. There needs to be a way to find out what is new without having to play hide and go seek.

Ghostofmacbeth ( ) posted Wed, 26 May 2004 at 8:55 PM

For the new stuff I just use the "New products" on the sidebar ... but that doesn't help the fact that there is problems

dialyn ( ) posted Wed, 26 May 2004 at 9:30 PM

Attached Link: New Product Link

There's a new products link (if you didn't find it on the article linked from the Front Page) that you can use until all the revisions are made. What I meant by "chill" is that we too often start criticizing before we've seen the whole product. I'm as guilty of that as anyone. Doesn't hurt to wait to see the finished product before starting the reviews. I am curious though about something colorful. Several people complain about the "bright white" of the background, but to me it is a soft cream (and I find bright white letter on a black background much harder to read than black on cream). And my shopping cart doesn't look anything like the one in message 14. I have the regular old defaults so it's not as if I am making fancy changes to the color scheme. I guess it must be a difference in monitors???? Or did I just slip into a different zone? (wouldn't be the first time).

Dave-So ( ) posted Wed, 26 May 2004 at 9:35 PM

mine looks exacxtly like the image..that's what I meant above when I said I couldn't read the text. I'll try a different color scheme, although I can read the rest of the site just fine, so I hate to mess up what already works. The other optioon is to save a few bucks and shop elsewhere, I guess, until it becomes readable again

So weird. This is what I see in my shopping cart and my purchase screen. Perfectly readable (at least to me). But, of course, that's possibly because I do have the defaults. Shrug. It's not the most myserious thing in my virtual universe.

Dave-So ( ) posted Wed, 26 May 2004 at 9:57 PM

yea..it was the way the colors were set up. I changed to default, but that's a bit too bright, so I made it a bit yellow..i guess creamy :) and now I can read it. So much for jumping off the end of the table again...I apologizze to Rendo ...but it still shouldn't have messed up what I originally had sset up to be readable for me....

Well, I think you made it easier to search for a specific kind of product, but I also miss the "What's New" button. That's how I did all my shopping too. This new format makes it more difficult to find new products.

Giana ( ) posted Thu, 27 May 2004 at 2:28 AM

i'm not using default colouring either, so i'm in the same unreadable boat as some of the others... i'm sure it'll get worked out... just PLEASE do not muck with the sidebar options... pleasepleaseplease!! :)) also, will the sidebar reappear/be put back when one is in the MP?? [hopeful look]

spinner ( ) posted Thu, 27 May 2004 at 3:45 AM

If anyone sees this asa personal attack - so be it, it isnt intended as such: Re chill: I wasnt aware of the fact pointing out a defacto problem involving no download on a purchase was a review, but then again, that may be a culture thing - even though I have been told by the PtB that wasn't supposed to happen. I really do wish that you, dialyn, sometimes stopped up and tried to look at things from the other side - I know you are very protective of rendo, and thats commendable, but at the same time, that protectiveness can also cause flames and tempers if you automatically go into defense mode whenever people have a ~legit~ complaint. I have worked a lot with databases and websites - from directory inquiries databases to the Manpower web-portals (which are beasts), and up to recently I headed a web-browser development team with two others, so I actually -do- know how these things work. I can understand that all the complaining in the forums you frequent gets on your nerves. It gets me pretty pissed too at times. But at the same time, what you are doing now seems like you are pooh-pooh-ing people's problems with the new site, and I dont think that the problems people are having are minuscule - they prohibit people to do what the RMP is for, namely shop. I am sure the RMP works for some, and not others, but at the same time, rendo should have taken into consideration that not everyone uses default settings, and again - that they are rolling out a new UI after the same old, same old is commendable, but I am again wondering why there is no parallel run, and no fallback, specially not if it's the same database. I could be hopelessly naive in believing MySQL would be able to do that, but then so be it. I posted a css hack to get around the rendy colours a while back - would people be interested in me reposting it ? ~S

Giana ( ) posted Thu, 27 May 2004 at 5:02 AM

until they sort out the colour thing, i've simply taken to highlighting the "unseen" text with my mouse in order to read it :))

TrekkieGrrrl ( ) posted Thu, 27 May 2004 at 7:35 AM · edited Thu, 27 May 2004 at 7:36 AM

Change to colours to the hideous default? And that's supposed to be a FIX? Sorry but I'd rather not be able to see my purchases then. I have a black-on-black purchase/wishlist/shopping cart screen too. But it doesn't matter coz I won't be BUYING anything at the moment anyway. Unfortunately I probably won't be SELLING anything either, which sux, but I can't blame people for not buying what they can't find, and what they can't see, once it's in their shopping cart.

Normally I do not get very vocal over site changes, and people who know me, also knows that I DO like Renderosity, in spite of everything, and it is not likely that I'll pack up my things and leave, like some before me, but this is too stupid. Also the excuse of not having a server to test this on.. sorry but that is a lame excuse. AT LEAST you should have tested what it meant for people who opted out of the default colours! And the bit about not having a graphic ready for the "what's new" link? Wasn't that a good idea to START it all by making the f'ing BUTTONS ready? On a GRAPHICS PAGE of all?

sigh

Not sure what you mean about "one more for my list", Dialyn, but I'm not sure I like the sound of it... :o) Actually you said: I am curious though about something colorful. Perfectly readable (at least to me). But, of course, that's possibly because I do have the defaults. Shrug. It's not the most myserious thing in my virtual universe. </> The last bit did (possibly unintentional) come off quite condescending to me. We are actually a lot of people who do NOT use the IMO icky default colours, and we can not see our purchases now. Nor our shopping cart. Suggesting to fix that by changing all our colours back to the blinding default is of course a possibility, but it is not US who started messing with what we thought was our custom colour schemes. If Rosity makes it possible to use custom colours, then of course they should be custon in all parts of the site - OR the text colour should also be hardcoded just like the background. And as I pay 50% of whatever I sell thru a currently close-to-unusable marketplace I really feel I have the right to protest NOW and not just wait and see while my sales go down the drain. End of rage from this dear heart. For now anyway.

is the warehouse gone? I can seem to navigate the new way as it is very well, must adjust, but ah, again-how does one head to the warehouse and is it in order of 'just in' like before?

shadowblade ( ) posted Thu, 27 May 2004 at 11:22 AM

Fantastic! This will take a little bit of time to adjust to, as is to be expected, but everything works wonderfully. I've gone in and adjusted my colors to my liking, learned to find what's new, search, select, purchase, and d/l my purchase without any trouble. Just wanted you to know that some of us were able to handle the changes, patient enough to let the dust settle, and appreciate the effort.

TrekkieGrrrl ( ) posted Thu, 27 May 2004 at 12:29 PM

Hmmm At least now the purchase History is visible again. Ugly but visible. But why can't we PLEASE have our custom colours work in the Marketplace too?

Glad to see it was not me getting an overdose of strange psychotropes again. As many people here, I'd like to : 1- Be able to view the marketplace with my custom colours : this 100 watts white light is a bit too much to bear in my dark lair. 2- Have a direct link to my cart/wishlist/purchases from each page of the shop. Having to get back to the front page is a pain in the back bottom. (although I can always make a link in IE to get there directly, if you cannot/willnot fix this). Apart from that, I have nothing much against whimsical unsuspected and unasked for radical changes in my natural habitat; otherwise I would never have got married.

I've come to expect radical, unexpected change here :) Consequently, this didn't bother me at all. I was more blown away by the color change than this. Hmmmm......probably because I work with state bureaucracy. Fine print, small images, lots of details....my forte :) What really threw me at first was when I went to my prior purchases and at first thought everything had disappeared!! Then I noted the "next page" thingee on the bottom of the page. Looks like they fixed the What's New issue and the color stuff....not quite as bright as it was at first. As I noted elsewhere, I actually found some items I'd never seen before (probably because the search capability here is so sucky). I can live with it. I figure next year they'll change it again.

TrekkieGrrrl ( ) posted Thu, 27 May 2004 at 2:54 PM

Yeah.. I can live with it now. I still don't LIKE it and I hope they aren't done tweaking it, as there still are some issues. I also want my od colours back. the fact that it's less blinding now helps, but not enough. I am lucky that my thumbnails in general look OK even shrinked 50% but I have seen some thumbnails today where I couldn't even tell what it was supposed to be. And those merchants must be furious. And rightly so. I doubt that we'll ever get the 200x200 thumbnails back though. The PtB has spoken. And they said 100x100. And so be it. But it looks totally awfull with all that white space around tiny thumbnails. At least make it 4 or 5 in each row then. Oh but I forgot that we all use 800x600 screen resolution here. That is.. everyone but me, coz I sure don't.
