Hello, I'm interested in creating patterns to make up the mesh for the grills on my cars, similar to the images I've attached. What is the best way to go about this? Thanks in advance.

I would create and prerender them in max (I know you use max :-) thats done in some minutes

save it with an alpha channel (i.e targa or tiff) and just use photoshop to make some adjustments (i.e. size cropping)

Well, I only use Max to Render my Rhino models, so I'd rather just do it all in Photoshop. Any ideas?

If you're wanting to creat them in Photoshop my guess is the best way would be to get more familiar with the Pattern tool. (See attached) This is obviously a quickie but you get the idea. If you play with the patterns (that you make) enough you can get them to offset as much as you want. Using "Shapes" would probably come in real handy here I think.

when I followed deeplayers tips, I was able to do this ^^ ^^ ^^ (it a mere imitation of a complete render of the grill) resembles what I percieve to be what happens in a 3d application
