Subject: useful helper apps for Poser?

Aeneas ( ) posted Tue, 08 June 2004 at 12:09 PM ยท edited Fri, 25 October 2024 at 6:11 AM

What do you consider important add-on apps to Poser, and why? What do they exactly do? I'm not referring to Photoshop, ZBrush, C4D, Lightwave etc, but those "smaller" helper apps and Python scripts that enhance the comfort of working in Poser. This question may have been asked before, but as there is often new software appearing, and quite often software overlaps more than a bit in functionality, it may, imo, be asked again.

I have tried prudent planning long enough. From now I'll be mad. (Rumi)

Runtime Reducer

I have found this handy inexpensive tool invaluable in helping me keep my Runtime folder to a manageable size.

One of the most usefull utilites I have is Dialog Box Assistant v1.01, navigation is hell from the Poser Open and Save dialogue boxes, but not with this utility! Here is the blurb: Description: Dialog Box Assistant is a small program that helps you to deal with the standard Open and Save As dialog boxes. It places 2 buttons in the upper-right corner of the dialog box. When you press the left button you see a drop-down list that contains most recently used folders. Right button is for the recent files. Dialog Box Assistant keeps a list of recently used folders and files for each application you work with. The version I have is v1.01, it was free, I'm not sure if it is still available, there is a new version v2.0, but it costs $19.95. Here is a list of specifically Poser ralated software that I use a lot, it's all free: CR2Builder Morph Manager 4 MAT Pose Edit UVMapper RTEncoder Objaction Mover Anim8tor Another one, not Poser specific but very handy when editing Poser library files is Code Keeper, it's for saving and retriving snippets of code.

Universal Texture Converter is a must-have.

Sniff. Maybe I'll have to crack my VisualBasic books and figure out how to write some Mac-side utilties myself.

Thanks Phil..the Objaction mover doesn't appear to be a live link..let me check the database..hmm..btw, I think a lot of this stuff is in Freestuff, under utilities..maybe in the Poser section, maybe not.. you can search freestuff items..

And don't forget P3DO - the 3d browser program, without which sorting poser files is frustrating in the extremes. (freestuff) Also UvMapperPro, FileListMaker, LupusRename, PWizard, Randomiser, Correct Reference and Photoshop er .. well Photoshop isn't a helper program technically ... but you know what I mean

You can find Python scripts by Ockham in FreeStuff...they make life wonderful in poser. His light scripts are great, and he has a "group2morph" script that really gives you much more control when useing magnets. The free modeler, "Wings" is great for making a quick prop. SWAMP

P3DO is a must-have, IMO. Also, Kawecki's free Prop Viewer is nice. You can view obj's and prop files (pp2's) even before unzipping them. It's here in Freestuff.
