Fractals F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2025 Jan 21 7:59 pm)
Hi Clark I have a brand new HP Pavilion, with a gig of ram, and a 256MB DDR ATI Radeon9800 graphics card. In Apo, I've been rendering at the highest quality, 2048 x 2048, sample density 200,oversample 4. Almost everything comes up clean and sharp. In UF, I use the highest resolution, but I'm not sure why, and normal anti-aliasing. My Apophysis images render cleaner in Apo than they do in UF, but if I'm combining the two, UF generally looks pretty good. The only problem I've had with UF is when I use a subtly textured background, and it can disappear after rendering. I'd be interested to know if anyone suggests any better UF settings.
I have a two year old Dell P4 2gig processor running a GeForce 2 card with a gig of ram. For Apo it depends on what I'm doing with the image. If it's a normal post I run at 4000x3000 at 500 dpi. If I'm going to put it up for print, I run at 5500x3667 at 2000 dpi. I've ran experiments on oversampling and personally, I think anything over 1 is a waste of render time. People might disagree with that, so run some experiments and see what works best for you. Another thing that you might think about is using some of your hard drive as virtual memory. I have two drives partitioned up into over half a dozen sections. Most of those are contributing to virtual memory. I've noticed it helps the response and render time in Apo.

athlon 3000+ 1gig radeon 9800 pro (primary sys); for UF animations I have had as many as 4 computers (the other 3 much less 'beefy') going at once. That can cut a 2 month animation down to a few weeks. This site uses cookies to deliver the best experience. Our own cookies make user accounts and other features possible. Hello I am new here, and was wondering what sort of computing power some of you are using, to create the great images I see at this site. I have been using UF, and Apophysis. So my question is mainly in regards to fractal renderings. Thank you, Clark
