Subject: Need help with "pose folder"

sdmakai73 ( ) posted Mon, 14 June 2004 at 3:30 AM · edited Wed, 04 December 2024 at 3:58 PM

I have added so many Daz products that my "pose" folder will only open up to a certain point. I found a way around it by re-naming pose folders with various versions of "!!!". is there any way to get ALL those folders to open when clicked, or is this just a flaw with Poser itself. There are alot of "poses" that I no longer need and was considering un-istalling Poser and starting over, but I really don't want to. Is there any hope here or what?

There's a limit of 256 folders in yout Pose directory. Any more than that and they will stop working. There's no harm in deleting stuff you never use but it may be safer just to move them. I use an extra 'Pose Archive' folder in my runtime. Anything not currently needed gets moved into that and moved back to 'Pose' only when required.

Another thing to do to get some room in your pose folder is moving some of the stuff into your camera folder. You just have to rename the .pz2 to .cm2 and move those files with their .rsr to the cam folder. Maybe, if you leave everything for people in your pose and move all those mat poses for clothes into your cam folder? Just remember, that the limit of 256 subfolders is the same for all poser libraries!

Yesterday's the past, tomorrow's the future, but today is a gift. That's why it's called the present.

Trimming out what you are not using is always a good idea. Just archive it elsewhere. The 256 limit is actually not that horrible (I try to keep my folders to < 100). Can you imagine scrolling through 3000 items just to get to the one hair positioning MAT (nobody would do that to get to the 20th shade of nail polish, would they?) It's like clearing out the sock drawer... you can only put it off for so long when the mismatched or needs mending or wrong colors bug you to the point of sorting them out and keeping what you can use. Another alternative is PBoost, which allows you to place similar items in their own folder (like all the Vicky 3 clothing into a Vicky 3 Clothing Folder). It allows you to switch between those folders within Poser and only shows the content you have in each section. I had all my Vicky 1-3 stuff in one folder, and in a sub-folder based on which version they were for (i.e. Vicky 1-2 clothing in one sub-folder, Vicky 3's in another), which also limits how many folders you have to go through. Poser 5 has a similar capability, allowing folders to be moved, but that's another investment.

Any mac user here, don't worry about the 256 limit I passed it long ago and can still open P4 libraries all the way down to the last item :-)

Why shouldn't speech be free? Very little of it is worth anything.
