Well, was working on shots from the Cultural Crossroads festival and you know how easily I'm distracted. Experimented a little more with that Lighten blending mode effect I stumbled upon last week. Here it's more controlled, I converted my b&w layer with the lighten mode effect taken into consideration. There were no masks or colors applied to this by hand (no brush tinting). All color is made by the b&w layer in lighten mode over the color base. This is getting really interesting and I think can be a valid technique with a bit more refining. -=>Donald

Fantastic technique, I'll have to give it a try =) Thanks for sharing, Donald =)

Wow! What a way to do selective colorization.

This is becoming more impresive as it moves along. When you finish fine tuning this, will you be making a quick tute and putting it in the tutorial section?

I'd be glad to put up a how to once I figure it all out. For those who want to see the easy way (it's a lot less complex, but doesn't have the overall control that I get with the method I'm working on now) to do this, try the following: 1) Open the image you want to do this to. 2) Add a Channel Mixer layer and then hit OK without changing anything. 3) Change the blending mode of the channel mixer layer to LIGHTEN. 4) Now, go back into the channel mixer and select MONOCHROME. 5) Now, by adjusting the R, G and B channels you will adjust how the color or B&W is applied to the image. Kind of fun to play with and you get to see feedback of each change you make as you do it.
