Dante, that's CRPro (Correct Reference). The only catch with this is the high number of duplicate names in part, as well. CRPro is your best bet at a solution for your problem -- for me, it's a matter of taking the time organize things before hand. I've got a strange naming convention, too, lol
thou and I, my friend, can, in the most flunkey world, make, each of us, one non-flunkey, one hero, if we like: that will be two heroes to begin with. (Carlyle)
Since I cleaned up my runtime folder last week, I don't install stuff directly to Poser anymore for exactly the reasons you mentioned. I created a DOWNLOAD folder on my hard disk and that is where I install everything I buy or download for free. Then I delete the stuff I don't need in the folders and convert RSR to PNG with P3d0Explorer, convert the *.bum or *.bmp to jpg and fix the pp2, pz2 or cr2 accordingly. THEN I copy the files where I want them in my runtime. When I have enough stuff in my download folder, I put it on a CD and delete it from my hard disk. After that, I index the CD with Discomania (free cataloguing program) so that if I want to find something, I can find it fast. Discomania can index stuff in zipfiles but not in exe. It doesn't matter for me anymore because I have neither of those extensions on my Poser CDs, only regular Poser folders. France

I use a program called "Where Is It" to catalog all my poser files. The version I have, which is several years old, can also catalog all the zip contents. Perhaps the current version will do exe's. As for runtime management, I discovered that poser 5, maybe 4, recognizes shortcuts (if you're using windows) so I unzip each file into it's own directory and make shortcuts to the runtime. It keeps things together (sans shortcut) so if I want to delete it, no problem. Only catch is for anything than uses external references (almost all of 'em), they need absolute file references (complete path). That's where CR Pro comes in.This site uses cookies to deliver the best experience. Our own cookies make user accounts and other features possible. Does anyone know of an archive indexing program that can search thru zips and installation EXEs as well to generate an index of files and folders contained?
I've been experiencing a growing problem.
I used to buy Poser products every week or two. Lately that's tapered off to once every couple months or less. One of the reasons is the tedious and time-consuming process of integrating new purchases into my Runtime Folder. I regularly go thru renaming and consolidating folders and files to stay within the 256 folder limit in the libraries, but I keep coming across files and folders with random names that I have no idea what product they're associated with. Often I can do a FileFind thru my archived recent purchase Zips to find which Zip contains the files, but that's sometimes not practical, and with *.EXE files (like from DAZ and a couple other sites) that's not possible.
Wish someone was doing a database or list of Poser content filenames and folder names and the product or download associated with them. Cross-references to what products are associated and/or required for each would be a fantastic convenience too.
Thanks
