Same here, but its just realllly slow. I heard they had a hacker attack the other day.

elizabyte ( ) posted Sun, 20 June 2004 at 1:38 AM

It's a Distributed Denial of Service attack from what I heard. Not quite the same thing as a hacker, although sometimes a DOS attack can be used to cause parts of a server to "break" so that a hacker can get in. bonni

Yahoo email is working for me, but it crashes my computer. Every time I access the email, if I close the IE6 my computer freeze, I don't close IE only minimize the computer works normaly. With Netscape 4.80 doesn't work anymore, but if I disable Java it works and very fast, only some folders get lost. To whom of Yahoo I can email about this?

I only wish I had listened earlier on when everyone was telling me to get rid of IE..I absolutely love Firefox :D Have no idea who for you to write to complain to over at Yahoo Kawecki..have you tried Firefox? It fixed my problems..might help :)

Normaly I use Netscape 4.80 with Win95 without IE, I love it!, in case of "difficult" or "hostile" sites I switch to another partition with Win98 and IE6. I'll take a look at Firefox.

Yahoo and other sites have been under attack for several days. Yahoo has crashed a few times. Yahoo is the favorite target to attack on the net because no one's ever hacked it. All they can do are DNS attacks.

Jenai21 ( ) posted Sun, 20 June 2004 at 12:43 PM

This sucks royally...I have about 40 new emails in that account that I can't get to and it's my primary email account I've never gone so long without checking email even when on vacation...I think I'm going into withdrawl or something...I downloaded Firefox and I can't get to them from there either...does anyone know when Yahoo will be coming back up??

I used to have Yahoo..but switched to www.myway.com due the the horrific amount of ads on Yahoo. It's sure nice to be able to read mail and news now.

I wonder if this is only effecting certain types of OS ? I use XP

dlk30341 ( ) posted Mon, 21 June 2004 at 8:54 AM

I use XP Pro. Also nothing else running in the background.

Jenai21 ( ) posted Mon, 21 June 2004 at 12:10 PM

I use XP...I have a cable connection...at first I was logged in to my account I just couldn't access mail I thought if I deleted temporary internet cookies and files, refreshed and login again it would work now unfortunately I can't get back in...I've tried IE and Firefox on IE it says page cannot be displayed and on firefox it says this document contains no data...this is really frustrating because all my important mail goes to this account specifically stuff from my job...I don't understand why it works for some people and not others...and yahoo customer care sucks I was able to get through to them because the news page started working and I went to leave a comment and I just got an automated response which didn't address the issue at all....arrrghh...oh also I created a new account on yahoo yesterday it let me create the account but yahoo isn't set up to pop mail to other yahoo accounts and once I create my new account I couldn't do anything with it meaning if I close that window there is no getting back in...is yahoo suppose to fix this in time or is there something I have to do??

Found something...and altho it mentions only Win 95..it could have something to do with the problems some ppl are having..

"Having trouble accessing YaHoo? The issue currently regarding YaHoo stems from the fact that YaHoo's backbone provider "Global Center" has changed their Internet routing, thus increasing the number of hops (jumps) taken to reach YaHoo and other sites routing through the Global Center backbone."

There is a 'fix' on this page..but as I said, it might or might not work as it only mentions Win 95...Im running XP and have no problems...couldn't hurt {I hope} to try it out. Will keep looking ;)

Yay...I finally fixed it...or maybe it fixed itself...the first thing I did was flush my system got rid of all the temp internet files and stuff then I shut down and unplug my internet cable connection from my computer and then I unplugged the modem from the surge protector...I let it sit for about 2 hrs and then I plugged everything back in and started up...now yahoo works perfectly...okay now I have to get back to the 400 unanswered emails that have accumalated...I hope this works for others and that's for letting my sound off and complain I was driving myself nuts also thanks for all the help...Jenn

Jumpstartme2 ( ) posted Mon, 21 June 2004 at 2:11 PM

**unplug my internet cable connection from my computer and then I unplugged the modem ** Good deal..sounds almost like it could possibly be from that 'router' problem described above...hmmm...anyways, glad we got at least one more back to Yahoo :)

This may have happened when they upgraded the mail server. If you hadn't noticed, all free Yahoo accounts now get 100M of storage. Normally, I can access mail within a few seconds, but it would take me 2-3 minutes to get a page to load... if it loaded at all. In the meantime, I still receive spam in my inbox, with OBVIOUS spam subject lines... despite their "improved spam filter". I have concluded (without proof, though) that this is due to 2 reasons: 1) They sell "holes" in their spam filters to companies willing to pay to reach their users. How else to explain the non-fltering of messages with "GENERIC V!AGRA!!!CHEAP!!!" as the subject line. Subject line all caps? Yes. Word similar to "viagra"? Yes. Multiple exclamation points? Yes. Message is dated 3 days in the future? Yes. "From" line is forged Hotmail address? Yes. Spam message? No: deliver to inbox. 2) They let spam messages through on purpose, as way to aggrevate you into purchasing Yahoo!Plus: their paid email service with "improved" spam filters.
