I'm considering dumping a lot of stuff that I got for V2 since my Runtime has gotten so large (20 GB). I'm tempted to keep it on my computer but then I only use the unimesh figures and M2 now. Is anyone else having the same dilemma?

Yea Ive thought about it tons. But can u imagine sorting through it all lol, I always end up leaving it.

Same..I just leave mine be..as when I first started out knew nothing about keeping things "in order" or "sorted". And of course it just keeps growing & growing. I'd be fine if I could just move my textures to a different HD, but no can do in PPP :(

I thought about it. Then bought a new hard drive instead. There was no more room in my case for more hard drives, so the new one is an external. Thank heaven for Firewire...

heh yeah I just jetisoned a lot of folders from my figure and pose libraries, I got tired of scrolling. though my hard drive is big enough that I didnt bother going into my texture and geometries folders... yet, not looking forward to that!

I bought an external hard drive 80 Gigs and it is filled up already. I got a DVD Writer and have already filled 8 DVD's. Haven't even touch the actual runtime folder, all that stuff is just the stuff I have bought or downloaded from the free areas. One day I have to get serious about about cleaning up the Runtime, but that is going to take a day when I have nothing to do and a bottle of Scotch or good Brandy....

I'm thinking about getting one of the various Runtime organizers out there. Like Poser Product Manager:

Seems like they would make slimming down your Runtime(s) easier, since they know what goes with what, and allow you to install and uninstall archives. (So you could uninstall and archive products that aren't used often, or are only used at certain times of year.)

Fortunately my Runtime ain't so bad. I installed P5 around December, didn't use my old P4 Runtime at all. So things aren't too bad. Who am I kidding? It's a jungle in there. :)

Archive. Archive. Archive. Is there some reason why we have to keep everything we get in our RT folders?

For me, because it's a PITA to remove stuff. Hence my interest in those utilities that promise to remove all files connected with an item in swell foop.

Here's a cheap & easy way to gain a bit of space fer PPP or P5...Go thru yr Libraries folder & shitcan all the .rsr's. They just thumbnails, & the .png's are smaller. Go thru each folder in Explorer, & if it don't have .png's, go to that folder in Poser. It will automatically create the .png's, the ya can can the rsr's. (Not entirely sure if PPP works the same, but P5 duz it fer sure) Ya can also delete any that are in yr Geometries folder. DO NOT delete any rsr's from any other folder unless ya wanna sift thru yr recycle bin, or reinstall Poser. Trust me...been there, done that :'-( My other lazy method is to do a "Clean Install" of Poser w/ only the options you want/need. Burn this to disk. Next time yr runtime fills w/ unmanagable crap, delete yr entire Poser file from yr hard drive (NOT uninstall), & copy the burned version back to the same place. Then reinstall the characters/ props ya actually use (ya archived 'em, right?). Because ya din't uninstall, yr OS registry won't know the diff, & all yr helper apps will still work.

Deleted 42,000 rsr's in my libraries :D Now my Runtime's down from 31 gigs to 30.2 gig - ha ha But man, being able to make subfolders in Poser5 is fantastic. Just gotta wait 30 minutes for Poser to open :P

Someone suggested that you can speed up P5's launch time by creating a "null runtime." Basically, a runtime with nothing in it. You make sure to set that the active runtime before you close Poser, and when you start Poser the next time, it will be pretty fast, since it will only scan the runtime that was active when you closed it.

Not sure if it works; I set up a null runtime, but always forget to set it active before I shut down.

Are you less than content with the Content Paradise Room? Wouldn't it be nifty to leave it out, since you know where to buy all your Poser products? If so, there's a way to edit the Posershell.xml file to keep the room from showing up when you run Poser 5. And it just so happens that I've written a step-by-step tutorial on how to edit this file. credit to netherworks for the above post. ya know, there is no way in hell I'm going to clean out my runtime. for one, I just finally got it all installed again. That took me two months. It's only got the stuff I absolutely love to death in it, or that I'm reasonably certain I'll have a use for. Even at that, it ended up at a little over 47GB. It's all nicely organized, and I can find something just by having an idea of how I use it and it works and it's beautiful. And you want me to go in and mess that up? Now!?!?!! Hell no! (sob) Never! (fist to heavens) As God is my witness, I'll never mess with my Runtime again!!!! (power failure) Oh sh--

Uh-uh, I keep it all. You'd be surprised how often I dig up old pz3's and re-use a character or a scene or something. Sometimes stuff that's years old. I'll go digging for a specific face or pose or a magnet/morph on a prop.... I keep EVERYTHING, every single file, pz3, render, the works. I'd rather buy more and bigger harddisks than move the stuff out. I do that with everything I work with, not only Poser. Costs a lot of space but it has saved me many times. :] Fish

Hard Drives are cheap, I never delete anything. ;-) However, I would like to see a way to move all those DAZ V3, M3, S3 injector pose libraries to the BOTTOM of Poser's list, rather than the TOP. Some simple DOS command to change the "!" to a "Z" in front of the folder names, or something. I dimly remember DOS, but I haven't found any E-Z way to do this... (I'm not doint to manually rename 76 folders!)

I just completed archive disk no. 101. No way am I gonna keep all that on a single drive and risk losing it when the disk crashes. I use a CD search program that allows me to find items by keyword, and when I archive, I use specific item names that allow me to find what I need quickly and easily. I also use multiple runtime folders that I can switch off as I move from one project to another, and that keeps the sizes more than manageable. I mean, there are all sorts of things you can do to keep that folder lean and mean rather than bloated as all heck.

Currently sitting at 27 Gig of Runtime stuff. Started organizing it last week. So far gotten rid of about 2 gig and I'm only about 2% done. If nothing else, I'm finding stuff I had completely forgotten about. Hidden treasure! It's going to take a while but I think that it'll be worth it!

Well, I came upon the exact reason why I'm so scared to clear out my runtime. Was doing an image this weekend, needed desk. Thought to myself that it'd be a perfect time to use one of the desks I bought WAAAAY back in 2000. Took out the CD and it wouldn't read. Not really scratched or anything. perhaps a bad disk. Doesn't matter. My desk was not accesssible. I'm scared to backup and delete. I do it sometimes to be practical, but get a queasy feeling each time I do it.

JetM, some smart guy said once that data of which there is only one copy doesn't exist at all.... 2 copies in different places on different kinds of media is a minimum. That bad cd - try reading it on some other drive. Drives vary enormously in their ability to read half-bad discs. The older the cd-rom drive the better, as a general rule. :] Fish

Hmm, I'd tried it on three different drives, all relatively new. I don't know that I have any old ones anymore. And you're right about the 2 copies in 2 different places. I don't blame anyone but myself for the loss.
