Subject: Have the rules regarding commercials here been altered?

TrekkieGrrrl ( ) posted Tue, 22 June 2004 at 10:32 AM · edited Fri, 22 November 2024 at 11:02 PM

Just asking, since there is at least one, and possibly two threads here which IMO CLEARLY belongs in Product Showcase. On the other hand, if posting commercials here has been allowed, just gimme a sec so I can flood the forum ;o)

I think it more likely that there are no mods currently "awake". So on that basis may I take this opportunity to say that you may still procure a large case of our ever popular Flanchards Steamed Pickled Walnuts for the very reasonable sum of 6 groats from our wayside store.

For Sale For Sale......slightly used accident prone cat. Goes by the name of Boogie and can't seem to keep from injuring self or others in a feeble attempt at gracefulness which never ever works........ I think that proud customers will always want to post info on their latest Daz
purchases here - it's very predictable. They should allow it, provided Daz pays to
play, by paying for advertising or banners here. It won't be too hard to make an
accounting of the commercials posted here by loyal customers, and increment the
bill accordingly. It's just good business - even though Daz doesn't authorize the
commercials, they stand to profit by them.

I also see two ads below - one for Monica (cheerleader, goes to reference to retail version) the other for Margo. Provided those two guys are paying Renderosity to advertise here, I don't see any problem with opportunists dumping commercials here, like they used to do during slack enforcement periods.

The point we're making I think is there is a difference between a customer being proud of a product and the creator posting a blatant ad in this forum. One of my threads was moved several weeks ago because it inferred that the project would be for sale in the future, even though nothing was directly said. My question was a technical request looking for advice because I was having trouble with the eyes. Does that mean because some of us are merchants and we ask a technical question about a project we are working on, that we stand to gain from the answer, so we shouldn't be allowed to ask questions?

That's exactly what I was getting at in the "What do you want" thread, when I mentioned the TOS was not always evenly applied. I'd be pissed if I was you, too. FWIW, I think the adverts below should be moved. In fact, they should have been moved hours ago. I can't believe there have been no mods looking in here all day.

Yes d-larsen...its all true, and heaven forbid you try as a merchant to get customer feedback on WIP's so you could make something potential customers actually like. This is why I dont post any of my projects here anymore...its better to go somewhere were their is more respect and understanding as to what is being posted rather than blindly trying to the letter of the law restricting board postings

My first post in this thread was meant as a subtle jab to any mod that read the thread, the way I interpreted Ern's post to be. I then IM'd both Shoshanna and Hauks the thread for "Margo", I hadn't even looked at the Cheerleader thread at that point. That was about two hours ago, the threads are still here and I'm wondering why also, hence my more obvious second post. We all asked for either less stringent enforcement of the TOS or at least even application. My thread that was moved last time was moved in less than an hour if I remember right. I would hope there is a reasonable explanation as to why these two haven't been moved, so I will wait a little longer before I loose my cookies.
Personaly, I think the Margo product is ugly and poorly designed and no amount of TOS violation is going to help sell it. The Cheerleader is OK but the implications of that product "#69" tells me it's better suited for Renderotica than Renderosity. I hope the mods take care of these blatant violations soon. Because I'm really tired of pussy-footing around here when I have a problem I need help with, to avoid getting warned and having my thread moved. I have to give a poor and incomplete explanation of what I want to do in order to avoid a TOS problem and that frustrates people who want to help but can't fully understand what I want to do unless take it to IM with them. How does that help anybody else in the future who runs into the same or similar problem?

So you guys wanna see the mods do a mad scramble to delete posts? I'll bet you almost anything if I start a few threads with titles like "Vicki, Steph, and Mike have 3some in the temple" the mods will jump all over me like a s.w.a.t. team within just a few min. Of course I'll be banned as well, but at least it will wake them up a little. LET'S ROCK! ;-)

I'm not advocating anarchy!!!! Maxx-settle down I don't want to see yo banned! You provide too much feedback and assistance to lose you. You can afford to do without me here but there are too many of you that provide real help and assistance to get in trouble. I'm the one with a pony in this dog show, let me take the heat. I've IM'd the threads to mods here and in other forums, if nothing gets done than I'll be bittching the loudest since I'm the whose thread got moved for far less than this. I never even said out right that the character would be for sale, but it was determined that since someone "suggested" the thread might be better suited for the showcase the mod agreed and moved and I was notified. Not warned, but notified. I disagreed with the decision but, accepted it as it was done politely. But this is type of blatant violation should never be tolerated. I don't know who those two merchants are, I don't know them, but if they post there work here for advertising and comments, I'll give it. Yes, Maxx Margo is poorly designed. It is supposed to be a teenager, with genitalia, with an over-sized head, with a texture barely comparable to my first attempts 6 months ago, and horrific advertising. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but even as a hard-up teenager 30+ years ago, I would never have been caught with something like that even drunk, stoned, and stupid as I am,, errr was!

We mods try our best to make sure things like this are moved in a timely manner. We are not always on here 24/7 so might not catch them as soon as some think we should. Thank you for the heads up. If anyone see something they question please feel free to contact me,Shanna, one of the coordinators or any other Mod here and we will look into it as soon as we can. :O) SndCastie

Thank you SndCastie. I guess at least my chief complaint is that those threads were posted at 04:30, R'sity time and 12 hours later they were still here. Since we don't know who is duty in the forum and when, it's a shot in the dark. I IM'd Shoshanna about 13:30, I believe and when no response IM'd Hauk, no response either. So, because I had seen Mod post here in the last several hours, I looked around and saw that ClintH was online and IM'd him about 17:30 asking him if he could notify whoever was on duty over here about our complaints. He responded immediately by moving the Margo thread as it was obvious to him a violation, but wasn't sure about the policy concerning the Cheerleader so he said he would forward to a mod here to handle and make the decision. A timely and proper response I feel and I thank him for doing so. Our complaint or question is, where was a moderator for the last 12 hours? Is it normal that no one would be here or respond for 12 hours? We understand that sometimes other duties distract people. But when we personaly have thread moved or get warned about inappropriate posting within an hour after our post and this goes on for 12 hours, I think you can understand our frustration. I know your job is a thankless one sometimes, but I try to commend you guys and thank you whenever possible, but it also gives me the right to complain or question when things don't appear to be done fairly. Thank you and I posted this publicly rather than IM'd you because of my public ranting earlier in this thread and I wanted everyone to know that ClintH stepped up when asked and ran interference quickly and concisely.

SndCastie ( ) posted Tue, 22 June 2004 at 6:48 PM

Thank you and am glad Clint helped. I have been off and on line in the last 24 hrs due to work and having to go out of town. I am sorry it took so long for one of us to get back with you and I can understand your frustration. The best way is to check who is online at the time and you can IM any mod or coordinator if one of us isn't online and they will try to take care of it as soon as possible if one of us isn't available. I try to check in here as often as I am on line. sometimes though we do miss something so for that I am sorry. SndCastie
