Let me see if I can help you. Most 3ds models don't have UV coordinates assigned to them. This is why the model remains white when in Poser. What you need to do with these is export the 3ds model as an obj file out of Poser. Then get the latest copy of UVMapper by Steve Cox. You will have to load the obj into UVMapper and play around with the types of mapping until you get one that you think you can paint in a Paint Program. Takes some work and I'm still learning how to use the program. Once you have it all set the way you want. Save both the new obj and the texture map. Take the map into a paint program (most people use Photoshop, I recommend Paintshop Pro6 because it's easier to get started in). You'll have to paint the map with the textures you want (clone brush is good for a lot of texture map making). However, it you don't want to go to all that, once you've mapped the obj, you can bring it into Poser and you should be able to get it to take textures. I may have left some things out. I hope not. But at least I've given you a start. Liz Pope Dreamspinner Inc.
Can't agree more with Dreamspinner. Spin any number of wheels on this subject. UV Mapper allows a number of different choices in how an object is mapped under the Edit menu. Different objects react differently to planar, box, etc. I've tried each one until I found the one easiest to deal with then saved both the text and the object. The text needs to be converted to full color and the object saved an reimported into Poser so that the text you made will work on it.

Hope someone can help me out. I noticed that when I first started importing 3DS files into Poser 4.0.3 ...some won't load textures at all. WHY? I also noticed that most of the 3DS files that I downloaded from 3D Cafe won't work in loading textures but the 3DS files I get from Chemical Studios (GREAT SITE) does. WHY? Are there different types of 3DS files? I was told to try and open them up in another 3D program and save the problem file as an obj and then load textures from that. Didn't work. Can anyone educate me as to why I'm having trouble with these 3DS files. Also some obj's don't work either. Does it have something to do with how the file was saved as? Like needing texture coordinates...etc? PLEASE HELP??? Example...try loading the Haunted House 3DS file from 3D Cafe and adding textures to it. I can't....only change the colors. Can some great tech here help me load textures to these troublesome files?
