Did anybody else find the "V3 Ball Gag" as offending as I did? Seems like it should belong on renderer***** and not here. Just my two cents worth. dave

ynsaen ( ) posted Fri, 25 June 2004 at 7:38 AM

Which one? There's been at least four or five in Freestuff for, like, ever. oh, no, wait --this is the v3 version. Sorry. It's probably classier and more elegant than the previous models, with more morphing capability. I can say that if anyone came near me with one of those, they had best be prepared for the results of doing so. I am not a shrinking violet. All of that stuff offends me. Which is likely why I'm not in charge of anything here, lol.

nothing wrong with it, what ever floats your boat really! i have never used one, but i know peeps that do! i use them in images to, so, it dont offend me!

In the words of DarkStarRising:

Darkness within darkness,

looking at her own shadows of loneliness"

Dave ( ) posted Fri, 25 June 2004 at 7:48 AM

Well they may have been in freestuff forever, but I kind of get tired of such "toys" appearing in freestuff. That kind of stuff and the full nude thumbnails make it rather difficult to browse freestuff at work. dave

ynsaen ( ) posted Fri, 25 June 2004 at 7:56 AM

The full nude thumbs in freestuff are something that's supposed to be marked. If you come across one when you have the filter on, definitely report it to Shoshanna or SndCastie.

With the filter on does the item still appear minus the thumbnail. Or does the item just not appear at all? dave

ynsaen ( ) posted Fri, 25 June 2004 at 8:01 AM

And bear in mind, while I might have been lighthearted in comment, I am not lighthearted in agreement. Such things should be marked as well in my opinion, but then, I am crazy...

boy if that ballgag offends you, the wardrobe malfunction must have really made you drop your teeth :)

Fox_intheStars ( ) posted Fri, 25 June 2004 at 8:12 AM

I really don't like the idea of banning such things from freestuff altogether. I'm really not offended when I come across it (if it was a photo, I would, but with it all virtual, I just shrug), and I guess I don't really see Renderosity as a wholly-whitebread kind of site. I think people should be free to post that for the people who want it. I do think nude thumbnails on the freebies present a problem, though; there should be a warning before freebie browsers are exposed to nudity, like there is on the forums and galleries. Perhaps allow an image link for larger/nude previews in the "Notes and Requirements" window, and require no nudity in thumbnails?

dirk5027 ( ) posted Fri, 25 June 2004 at 8:16 AM

actually there should be no nudity in any thumbnails, period

ynsaen ( ) posted Fri, 25 June 2004 at 8:20 AM

The wardrobe malfunction didn't offend me, as I was preoccupied at the time it broke with one of my own. truth be told, it's not that they are there, it 's that folks who don't want to see them -- for whatever reason -- shouldn't have to. Morality isn't the point, taste isn't the point, floating one's boat isn't the point. The point is that he's allowed to surf at work, but not to see things that other people just might find offensive and fire him or having casually popped up on the screen. Courtesy is the point. Oh, wait -- that's about to evaporate as this thread descends into the maelstrom of the unending debate over censorship, nudity, and protecting whatsits from whosits...

Anybody else using IE? Go to "Tools/Internet Options/Advanced" and uncheck the "Show pictures" box in the "Multimedia" section. Works for me at work! ;) The bad thing is that you have to right-click the place where the image was and select "Show picture" to see it. It'd be best if they had a filter for nude pix and stuff like the gag.

.....subjectivity. The itsy bitsy cutesy wootsies scare the heck out of me! Koshini, Sara, Animedoll - you know these are the little wee beasties that come out from under your bed at night. But seriously, it will get to a point where there'll be no thumbs in the free section 'cos the donors are afraid to offend anyone of anything. I don't see anyone getting upset about the ten thousand deadly weapons with thumbnails in the free section. Even the little, sharp itsy bitsy kind that those little folks wield at night when I'm sleeping Ahhhh!! Make them go away!!

But I DO find your rendition of "Easter#1 & #2" in your gallery quite offensive. Images of violence and blood offend me. Doesn't matter if they're under the guise of "religeon". ;-P

My honest answer is, no, I don't find it offensive, despite its usual sexual connotations, there's nothing overtly sexual about the item or the thumbnail. For those of you who can't/won't look, the pic is a headshot of a female wearing the thing.

Point is, the thumbnail is well within the TOS, there's no nudity or violence involved, and the prop is, well, just what it is.

I honestly, seriously think someone is being a wee bit too sensitive.

And Dave, since you committed the faux pas of correcting someone's spelling on a net forum, I feel free to correct you on your usage. It's "Offensive", not "Offending". edited for atrocious typing. :)

The point is that he's allowed to surf at work, but not to see things that other people just might find offensive and fire him or having casually popped up on the screen one of our machines at work had the browser hijacked...and the pics that kept poppin up were pretty sleazy. i guess what i am trying to say is: if you are surfing the web at all you can come across some pretty bad pop ups by accident. i feel reasonably sure that most bosses understand this...so why should a thumb in freestuff...that is small enough that another would have to actually stand behind one to view be such a big deal? if another has to stand behind a co worker and make an effort to see what is on the screen, than if he/or she is offended by what he/she sees.....don't look. period. it's not like browsing the poser gallery with nudity off, clicking on the links to the actual image. folks need to mind their own business, and stop cramping the business of others.

maxxxmodelz ( ) posted Fri, 25 June 2004 at 9:20 AM

Well, I just wonder why people get SO offended over stuff like that, to the point they feel it shouldn't belong on the site. It's not a picture of a dead puppy folks! ;-) So I don't know why it gets people so up tight. This whole "family art site" thing really makes me wonder. It's not ART if everyone has the same opinion about it. But I digress. Carry on. :-)

It's also spelled 'offensive' and 'Renderotica'. And no, not particularly. But I'm one of those sicko types who grew up in the 60's when nightly news had such wonderful things as human brains being splattered all over the fields of Vietnam and then there was the streaking craze in high school, and you know what? So what. Renderosity is trying to be All Things to All People and it doesn't work. They never -were- a 'family site'...whatever =that= is supposed to mean. Who's family is the benchmark? What are the qualifications? The rules? It is simply a buzzword without any meaning, because it involves applying some universal nebulous standard of what is 'right' to individuals of radically different backgrounds, upbringings, and levels of maturity. The hard, cold business truth is that the items that Rosity has the highest download traffic in, and movement of in the marketplace, are the adult oriented props, genital add-ons, bondage gear, sexy outfits, etc. Rotica would love for this stuff to be banned here; it would probably increase their base 4 or 5 fold, and most certainly triple their market revenue...to a similar hit on Rosity's income. Personally, I would love to see a 'family values' Poser site and market...I would give it maybe 6 months, tops. Unless they had someone who made high quality real world clothing. As for surfing at work...ask what the rules are, get them in writing, and keep them at your desk. And look at the moon phase, time of month, Fed interest rates, and tide levels, ynsaen. It -is- time for this one to come around =again=. funny how it always seems to be someone offended -by- something with sexual connotations. I don't think I've ever seen one of these start because someone complained an item -wasn't- (fill in your favorite adjective)....

chloe008uk ( ) posted Fri, 25 June 2004 at 9:34 AM

Sorry Dave, It's a ball gag. The image conforms to the requirements of the site. Don't understand what you're up in arms about. Chloe

Dave ( ) posted Fri, 25 June 2004 at 9:37 AM

Sexual stuff doesnt offend me. I guess I just find the display of the product in use that offends me. You can also add all those thumbnails of women in cages and strapped to tables as well. I think we would get the point of what the item was, without the women in the thumbnail. And as I said before that's just my 2 cents. dave

3ddave44 ( ) posted Fri, 25 June 2004 at 10:15 AM

...Besides, it is likely that a ball gag can be found in the bedside table or dresser drawer of many "family" bedrooms. If nothing else, the internet has shown that a LOT of people, mothers and fathers among them, are into a LOT of WILD stuff... : ) And let me say that from what I overhear from teenagers conversations on the subway (I'm in NYC) and from the occasional sexpose on 20/20 or dateline, the next group of mothers and fathers are a rather kinky bunch... for whatever reasons - sexed-up media and internet I suspect are a couple of them. No, I'm not into it, but I wasn't offended to see it.

3ddave44 ( ) posted Fri, 25 June 2004 at 10:27 AM

also I might add that being exposed to something kinky, sexual, ugly, violent, doesn't create the affinity for it. When you're exposed to stuff you're either into it or not, on some level, at sight. If it's exposure to something you've never seen before, the exposure to it is usually actually just a confirmation of something you've already thought of - and hence the affinity. All of this is the world, this is what's here. Hiding some of it doesn't make any of it not so. : ) It's a kind of... "c'est la vie" thing. : ) Dave

3ddave44 ( ) posted Fri, 25 June 2004 at 10:34 AM

BUT all that doesn't mean that I don't think some measure of decorum is always a good idea. I have seem some Thumbnails that were pretty eye-opening. The gag one not being one because it wasn't as expressly graphic as it could have been and was pretty much 'gone with the scroll'. ; ) Dave

It would be nice to have a freestuff area open ONLY to adult members for the R and X rated sort of props. But realistically you would then need to move a huge number of items and enforce a kid friendly rule of no tits, ass genitalia , weapons, axes, whips, chains, etc. The ball gag is less offensive than some of the ring gags posted elsewhere. And then you get tentacles, man that is sick, and dog p**** props. If you surf the web at work , personal responsability says avoid actions that will get you fired.

It takes an awful lot to offend me, but I also accept the fact that others do not believe as I do.
The ball gag is one of the tamer items I have seen in the freestuff, here and elsewhere.
I understand the point trying to be made here, and it has little to do censorship or moral decency.
This is a community based on good will, and the TOS however restrictive some may view it to be, is quite liberal.
Hell, the only things you can't do are attack others and depict sexual arousal/engagement.
Sounds pretty fair to me.
The only way for this community to prosper is to keep things as neutral as possible in it's default state.
More visitors-more members-more ideas-more free items-tutorials-help-inspiration.....
Most people here know it's hard to surf the galleries at work or in front of children.
Not that there is anything wrong with the content in the images.
The problem is that nudity tags are useless if the thumb is a closeup of a clitoris.
By this time, first impression is already made and a label is attached.
New members/contributers may be turned away at this point.
These are just two situations where most would find it improper to have such a display on the monitor for others to see.
Kinda the same for porn, the recent beheading videos, autopsy pictures of children....
I don't know, think of the absolute last thing that you would want to see...
...wouldn't you want to have the option of NOT seeing it?
Yes I know there are provisions to kill the nudy thumbs if they are tagged...
...but new visitors don't know of this option, they don't have the choice by default.
Hell, even some veteran members can say that they have no idea how to go about setting that up.
Ok this is getting a bit long winded, and I don't thing it will make a bit of difference.
I stated earlier that I am not offended easily.
Also I don't have to worry about someone else viewing what I am.
I don't have a need for regulation of content at all, but others do.
This community isn't based around me, if it were, I wouldn't visit.
I shudder to think what this place may be if the contributers to this site were offended so easily.

I can't personally get offened by anything 'poser-y' its a collection of polygons... I have far more to worry about myself. shrug

It seems to me you have spent way to much of your time and energy complaining about something you aren't interested in anyway... I do not find things of a sexual nature offensive, and the ballgag does not upset me. However if I had children, I'd not want them to see it as I would not want to be put in a spot where I were required to explain it's use. Also, I don't leave real life ballgags laying about for the cat to bat around while friends come over to visit.
