I hope they remain two separated softwares. Integrated (as in they speak each other languages), but separated. Actually IMHO the best course of action for them (and the users) would be if they improve and update Bryce rendering engine and include displacement mapping to the material properties and then use the same rendering engine in DAZ|STUDIO. This way the two applications would be perfectly integrated and they could double the investment in resources and money for the two programs. D|S would be the tool where we pose or animate the characters to be integrated later in Bryce. Bryce needs to be updated to improve not only the rendering engine, but to improve the modeling capabilities. I would love to be able to do what it is now possible with lattice in the terrain editor to mesh object or subdivided surfaces. Add some basic modeling tools to modify primitives and metaballs and then detail them with sculpting tools. Something similar to ZBrush.

Thats a cool idea ... two seperate programs in a symbiotic harmony. I can't help but think Lightwave!! Beef up Bryce with some polygonal extruder and point drag tools. But since Daz/Studio is free and and with platinum club you can get Bryce at $40 bucks, what kind of price tag can you guys and gals imagine for the upgrade, and also for the newbies.
Have no idea, but we need to brace ourselves for just a medium sized upgrade in Bryce (which DAZ has eluded to). Version 6 won't have all that we would want (as of yet) (and we want SO much, lol) but, having Bryce back on the road to growth is good enough for now. AS

Bryce has not had an upgrade since Windows 95. It doesn't use any active X or any of the graphics acceleration technology applied to basic operating systems since the major shift from 16 to 32bit processing. DAZ is right to still call the program Bryce 5. They have the ownership and can only now decompile and look at the code. It's still several months to understand it all and do anything about it. It is a daunting task for even someone like Doc Mojo who worked on it to bring it into the 21st century. If they make GUIs for the imbedded code it might make it worth calling Bryce 6. Don't look for anything new this week, this month, or this quarter. A release of any major changes by Christmas would be a stretch. I know everyone has been waiting a long time but nothings going to happen soon.

Hi Eyecon... good to see ya come back around. 8) from DAZ forum: "What is the difference between the Corel and DAZ Bryce 5? The only difference is new installers as well as the Turbo Import as a separate component. Will DAZ|Studio and Bryce eventually be merged into one program or will they remain separate? DAZ has no plans of merging the programs. Our mission is to offer seamless COMPATIBILITY between the two programs." So it looks to me like they intend to keep Bryce independent. Electroglyph.... well said. 8)

It couldn't hurt Daz too much if they threw a few $$ at Eric Wenger and Ken Musgrave. (This might be tricky, since they each have their own thing going now.) By having them as consultants, it might be possible to streamline the process of refining the Bryce code. Things such as debugging, un-hiding the easter eggs, and adding some form of interactive help menus wouldn't be a bad place to start.
Your friendly neighborhood Wings3D nut.
Also feel free to browse my freebies at ShareCG.
There might be something worth downloading.
DAZ actually will be meeting with Eric Wenger and Kai Krause in a couple of weeks. AS

ok... i don't know yet but the thing is if Daz certainly makes a bryce 5... whats stopping them from putting a Daz/Studio and Bryce 5 Megred Program and name it as BRYCE 6? That would be swell for some, and nuts for others... Although thats an idea... i just want to know how others think about it... coz if this happens there would be not much of a "Oh another POSER artwork" coz bryce has at some extents a poser Part in it... Bummer... i'll just continue my max learning... or probably jump to maya... eyecon and his 2 cents
