Here are a couple of previews of my current project.

Still have the main light to model and probably a couple of furniture items. Anyone has suggestions on what kind of items to add to this pack ?

A nice victoria easy chair or two would be appropriate for a library such as this. Nice work so far!

Online Now!

Looks good. Any chance the railing, ladder and bookcases could be used to line a square rooms wall (just a ladder to move across a line of bookshelves? Are these items usable as seperate props? eric

As I'm sure you know Victorian decorating was very cluttered and busy, if tastefully so. Maybe a wingback chair and small tables for plants. A bear or cougar rug. I remember seeing a lot of ferns in photos of Victorian interiors, lots of family photographs, too. In any case, this is a very cool and original project, best of luck with it!

This is great! How about making the background walls some kind of mahogany paneling texture. That big table should have some open books and maybe maps, but I suppose someone could add these props afterwards. It makes me think of League of Extraordinary Gentlemen or an archeaologist's library. Can't wait until it comes out!

So far, the pack consist of the room (includes 8 bookcase 'columns', the chimney, second level, stairs, railing and ladder), separate bookcases (2 kinds(2 book layouts for each + empty)),Wall lamps (as seen on the bookcases), 2 tables , 2 rugs, 1 painting (as seen on the chimney) and 1 light set. The ladder has been rigged so that it can be moved around the room, following the rail (using limits for ease os use). To keep the ressource down, each bookcases can be filled with books individually (same for the lights). I.e. , if one part of the room isn't seen in the picture you're making, you don't need to fill it with unnecessary stuff. Mamba : the ladder and railling are part of the room, so they won't be usable separately (however, some carefull blocking of the back (curved) section may get you some results, possibly). The bookcases props,Wall lights, books(6 different book textures, 2 kinds of book props),rugs and tables can be used to furnish any room you like (and can be used to add more furniture to the library itself,of course). Looks like chairs are on the menu ,then :) .

Cyhiraeth : The inspiration for this indeed comes from Dorian Grey's Library in the LXG movie. I didn't strictly followed the movie's design but its recognizable. So far, the plans are to try and release this by the end of July. Wall textures (and all others) are easily changed (just replace the existing one by another, minding the tilling).

Outstanding work!!! Now I have 2 rooms to buy when they come out :)

I just watched the Dorian Gray movie night before last! I love those old Movie Classics! Evanara, you have done a superb job here! In case you are not up to creating any of the items people have suggested here for your scene, we've got a few of them already in Poser format: Antique Wingback Chair, Antique Tuck and Roll Sofa, Small Antique Marble Top Table (w/single drawer that opens). We also have a hutch with a zillion small drawers that would suit this scene perfectly, but we haven't converted the individual model into Poser yet. It does exist in Poser format, but only in our Gothic Tower. But I was thinking it would be perfect to put into this great scene as it would be a perfect Library Card Catalogue (for that old Dewey Decimal Filing System. ;) In my opinion, I think this room has plenty to offer AS IS And just beautiful work as well. Cheers! Pam

No reading stands? A library should have a couple of different ways to hold books up at an angle for reading: flat or winged, and they should be solid enough to support an encyclopedia or other reference tome. Most such libraries would also have a very large winged holder for prints or plates from a subscription series (think Audubon). In addition to being decorative displays, these also indicate that the owner has enough wealth and taste to be a patron. Carolly

I am amazed at the talent/imagination that continues to show itself around here.

This looks to be an excellent, first-class model.

Accessories? In addition to current suggestions, what about a smoking jacket and a pipe for M3? Fireplace poker, tongs, broom, shovel. Likewise, a coal bin or firewood holder for the fireplace.

A vase or two wouldn't be out of order.

Or, if you would like to add a touch of authenticity - a rack of colored glass "hand grenade" fire extinguishers. Those are worth some big $$$$ on the antiques market, especially if they are sealed with the liquid still inside. See attached image.

A wine carafe/service with glasses.

I could think of more, but I leave it at that.

Excellent model......excellent........

Thanks all for your comments and suggestions. Looks like I've got some work to do :).

While looking for reference materials for reading stands , I came accross the attached item. German, late 18th (around 1790). I think it may be a bit crazy, but I'll try to include something like this in the pack.
Wish me luck : )

Cyhiraeth ( ) posted Mon, 28 June 2004 at 2:59 PM

That is perfect! This is going to be a great pack regardless of what else you put in. I'm looking forward to it!

I think the room looks awesome as is. The ladder and railing is way cool!

Finally managed to complete the Reading Stand. This one has thrown all sorts of problems at me as the conversion from MAX to Poser kept corrupting some of the mesh. Top is movable (up or down), reading table can be rotated (back support too) and there's a secret drawer in the base.

Excellent!

Being able to read or write at a comfortable angle is part of why gentlepeople retreated to libraries for hours at a time. :)

The modelling phase is done and the integration Poser nearly finished. The test phase should start soon (hopefully...)
