hmm..considering the original Barbie was based on a German 'naughty' doll, ya wonder. Have a few models I need to 'turn down the hooters' on when I use them..;) I think the Barbie option's just the easy way out..there's actually some good Poser stuff out there, so it runs all over the place..and just think of all the swords and temples that have been created for this..don't think the original Barbie's got that (I'd 'love' to see 'Barbie's Playtime Temple and Pigsticker Set' on the shelves at the local Wally World..;)

Is terragen bryce for adults?

SAMS3D ( ) posted Sun, 04 July 2004 at 11:02 AM

LOL...I think it just may be....Sharen :-)

I just get sick of people insulting poser for no real reason, it is one of the best 3d programs ever in my opinion (and poser 5 materials are better than bryce`s).

Would you believe that it actually was a request that took me down this path. My 4 yr old GD wanted me to do her piccies of Barbie, so she could have them on her desktop. And yes she has her own pc at 4 yrs old. Couldn't make vickie look like Barbie, so used Sara instead, and as said Gd is named Sarah it seemed quite apt. ps Sara also makes a good little mermaid...her other current fav.

I think some people treat Poser that way when they first start out. I think the way Poser is made you can develop your modeling skills little by little depending less and less on basic figures and poses which is the nice thing about it. It is definately not a one trick pony. Sara - is that the free model from 3d universe? That is a very good model from what I've seen and read about it - haven't played with it yet. You never cease to amaze me the way you able to create a unique fantasy world with Bryce and Poser. This looks very good from what little I remember about Barbie - my cousin Susan had a collection which when we were children would show off at the drop of a hat.

Yup, that's the one. The tex I have used is a freebie as well, from fauve. Top of dress is from poserworld and I played around with the skirt from serge marcks pt dress2 to get it to fit her. She is quite fun to play with, if more limited than vickie, or even posette. And Xantor I am not insulting poser, heck if you see most of my stuff it has poser in it somewhere, even though I always render in bryce.

Yes chohole I realised that you werent insulting poser after you replied after I did.

pakled ( ) posted Sun, 04 July 2004 at 4:01 PM

I'm just having fun with Poser, we're pretty egalitarian about that..you've never seen the 'mirror ball above a reflective lake' cliche here?..;) I like Poser so much I have 3, 4, and Daz Studio..woops, make the 2.5..;) Sometimes the Poser crowd take themselves a bit seriously, but it's all in fun..;)

chohole, LOL I'm gonna have to try out Sara - I've been spending waaaay too much time looking stuff up on the net lately . . . and it might give me an opportunity to try out some of that Photoshop texturing stuff I just learned how to do . . . as for UV maps! gotta love 'em. More limited than posette? As I recall posette had a problem with the neck which I was going to play with a couple of years back, but never got a "round tuit". I hope Sara will be better in that regard. Anyrate I'll try to give Sara a try soon, - TJ

I don't use poser that much...but when I do, I tend to view it more as "photography for those without a camera, model, costumes, studio..."

chohole how did you make the trees? they look great by the way :)

chohole ( ) posted Mon, 05 July 2004 at 4:58 AM

I have to admit that the only thing I made was the castle. The trees are from a pack of toon enviroments that was a limited time freebie some time ago for poser. I have checked the readme and there is nothing to say who made them, and I honestly can't remember. Someone in the poser forum may remember. All I did was run the tree through uvmapper so I could texture it, having turned it from a pp2 to an obj in poser.

Great piccie, I love the castle as well ,very Barbie. Oh, and Sarah says: It's amazing!

Looks cool. Good work on the character and castle. Been resisting urges to make a picture with pink in it, it violates my dark artist's guild membership.

Poser IS Barbie dolls for adults, but it isn't ONLY Barbie dolls for adults. How's that?

SevenOfEleven ( ) posted Wed, 07 July 2004 at 2:05 PM

Poser IS Barbie dolls for adults because: 1. Can dress them any way you want. 2. Can pose them anyway you want. 3. Can give them tattoos/piercings anyway you want. 4. Can give Vicky(Barbie) any backdrop you want too. 5. Don't have to worry about relatives having family pets bite the heads off of your favorite Vicky(Barbie) doll. 6. Can crank up the breast sizes way up high. GI JOE is an action figure because he is for mostly boys but if you take the clothes off there is little difference between Ken or GI Joe. Ken probably can't handle a M-16, what a wuss.
