Subject: memory low message

When I try add certain new figures to my doc, I keep getting a "warning message" that my memory is low. What can I do about that, or how can I add more memory to Poser? It's driving me crazy

PC or Mac? On a Mac, it's easy, just command-I and reset the memory allocation, then restart. On a PC, depends on which version of Windows you have.

I have XP

How much memory do you have? You can't assign more RAM to any application in Windows but you can increase the virtual RAM/Page File size. Instructions on how to do this can be found at CL's site.

Low memory is a generic error message in Poser. What version of Poser are you using and what characters are causing the problem? Make sure you have the latest update for Poser or with Poser4 and lower, the Geometries RSR is probably corrupt and must be deleted. Poser will make another when you load the character.

Right now, the course I'm taking teaches on version 4.3 That's the one that's giving me problems. Once I'm done with the course I'll upgrade to 5. I'll try increasing the virtual RAm, too. So, is this a version 4 issue?

It is an issue with all of them, smoovie. Once you pack enough stuff into your scene, you can bring any pc down.

I agree with everything that's been said here. I'd only add that there is an additional update that CL has regarding memory issues...think they call it Poser Pro Pack Memory Updater and it's for Poser Pro Pack users with greater than 1GB of total memory (RAM + virtual memory = more than 1 GB.) to run normally. I use XP also and I've had the problem when I'd do a "new window" render and it fixes the problem immediately. just my two cents jen

A gentle suggestion, when asking about any error messages, it is best if you tell us how much memory you have, your operating system, your computer hardware and perhaps software specs. Otherwise we waste time speculating or asking questions before we can help.

What I meant was that it takes longer to help you if we need to get all the information before we can give the answer. For example, if you told us you have 128MB of RAM, we could say you indeed don't have enough memory. If you told us you have 512MB of RAM, then you probably have enough memory. In that case, Poser is probably telling you it can't find a geometry file. If Poser can't find a geometry file, it complains about that first, then it says you don't have enough memory. (Which is actually a lie.)

You can also download something that takes memory away from things that really doesn't need it and put it to Poser. Its wonderful. Its at memturbo.com
