Subject: UltimateFIRE help please

Hello everyone, Im kind of being emasculated by the UltimateFIRE. The readME is simply too vague for this newbie im afraid. The instructions I have are: 1. Load the FireCORE prop of your choice. 2. Load FireLIGHT of choice and parent to the FireCORE. 3. Position and scale the FireCORE prop as needed. and I note at the bottom hints it says 2. Always parent FireLIGHT_1 to the FireCORE immediately after loading a FirePROP. I tried to work with the candle_01 prop shown in the example. Every time I try to bring in the fire, it takes over some existing figure and im unable to position the fire without moving an existing feature of the render :( Ive tried parenting the fire to a ball, and it still moves a figure. Do I need to bring in a full person figure and make them invisible to be able to move this fire? I managed in an empty scene with nothing but the fire, to get it all moving as a unit by parenting the FireLIGHT_1 to the FireCORE. I thought I had it. Then as soon as I followed the exact same steps to use the item in an actual render, there seemed no way whatsoever to make all the items move together. Im getting really really frustrated. I wrote to the contact email with the readME, and got back a link to a basic prop importation tutorial, with nothing whatsoever specific to this prop in the reply. This seems the most phenomenol fire item ive seen in my short time with poser. The promo pics are just stunning and the creators obviously did a great job, I really want to use it but I just cant get anything from the instructions at all. Can anyone walk me thru using this please? I need to know how to bring it in without destroying an existing render (the figures in it need to stay put, not move with the fire) Thanks for reading :) Logan

When you tried parenting, have you tried this: you've loaded the FireCore, fine. Load the Fire, now, click on the drop down menu and make sure the Fire is selected. I like to use Ctl+i to open the proprties window and set the parent. Normally the parent would go to the body. Now select the FireCore prop. Click on the dropdown menu and see if there is a body part. If so, select and now you should be able to move the whole prop.

I must remember to remember what it was I had to remember.

Hello Nickedshield, Well that really helped :) I started with the default PPP scene with dork, I brought in the fireCORE from prop library, then with it selected brought in the matching light library item, then I used the drop down for Figure 1 Lights>fireLIGHT_1 and selected that, used ctrl+i and set the parent and then changed the selection to Figure 1 Candle_1 and all the fire parts are moving independant of dork. I then set up a more complex scene and repeated the steps. This time for some reason, the fireCORE had to be parented to the Candle_1 prop as well as the fireLIGHT_1 being parented to the fireCORE. I dont know why this extra step was necessary, but once I did it, the prop moves fine and all other figures are retaining thier positions. Thanks a lot!! Logan

Remember you don't need the core or the lights for some scenes. Just the fire prop trans. It works well with one well positioned spot or passively from your scene so long as it's 90^ from your camera.

Glad to hear you got it working. The big problem I've seen is when a prop or figure has a 'body'. Poser doesn't know which one you want until you select it. As far as the candle, it's still part of the fire prop so think of it as setting a group.

I must remember to remember what it was I had to remember.

Now that I had the wierd failure to work earlier and have seen the hirarchy editor window showing 2 different arrangements in a working and non-working config, I think I understand this item a little better. The lights are all pre-parented as a group to fireLIGHT_1 when imported, and parenting the fireLIGHT_1 to the fireCORE and then the core to the lightprop makes one group item that can be moved as a whole by selecting the prop that all other items are tied to either directly or thru fireLIGHT_1 Now ill know to always confirm that the fireCORE retained parentage to the prop and avoid the error I had earlier. richardson, do you have any links to pics that have used the transmap only or the 90degree trick? Id like to see what you are describing :) Logan
