Well It's been a short time of happiness.. and now that i'm digging into Vue a little more... it's back to it's old tricks..crashing. it seems now anytime i try and edit a texture it crashes.. Bumps seems to be the worse, but that could be because that's what I am trying to do/learn. any ideas folks? thanks again

I have problems with background programs. Try shutting them down before starting Vue.

How much ram?

hstewarth ( ) posted Mon, 19 July 2004 at 8:15 AM

I have seen some crashing with my latest scene which uses most of 1Gig ram. It is a scene with about 4 million polygons. I am curious is there any good tutorials on optimizing for memory with Vue.

i have similiar problems too , with vue pro here my pc specs PIV 2,8 768mb Ram , Geforce4 with this machine vue pro always crash , but in my old buddy PC PIV 1,6ghz ,512mb and old TNT card they never crash at all . Anyone know why ?( both with winxp sp1) , anything with same setup and nothing share in vga`s display resources

I think my issues are memory related. I aware of issues with my Notebook which has a ATI 9200 which Vue detects its and states that OpenGL should be disable. Also I believe I saw in Vue FAQ that Vue has a software copyright protection scheme that if it detects illegal version, it would crash randomly - to me that sounds rather vaque and danagerous.

Gloubi... gig of ram Hstewarth... yup i agree about the flaky copy protection, no question in my mind that's what causes me my troubles.. when I first got Vue i couldn't get it to run for more than 15 mins with out crashing, this is a brand new G5 dual 1.8 mac.... only way i finally got it to stop back then was to wipe my drive "with over write" and reinstall everything and it seemed stable... till now Satia.. are both machines running the same serial #? are they networked? (in other words, if Vue was installed on the old one first.. then the second one with the same serial # Vue will think it's a pirated copy on the second and bug out) only way to fix this (if I'm right that is ) is to wipe the drive ( overwrite with !'s and o's) and reinstall... making sure that the old one isn't hooked up

What I would like to do ... is do my editing on my main machine and then once done, move my world to anoother machine. and let it render while I am doing something else on my machine. Only me using the software - seems legal to me. Lightwave has a dongle on it, and even it can be done.

thomllama ( ) posted Mon, 19 July 2004 at 6:17 PM

welcome to my world!! LOL .. this is why i hate this copy protection system In Vue!! I mean how does it know which one is legal?.. also.. if they are so worried about copy protection.. 1. How does it know it's stolen Reg # 2. most people pirating software wont buy it anyway 3. if you're so worried about coppy protection that you're crashing the people who have paid.. think you're losing more because people aren't going to recommned it? anyway if you have mover or pro i beleive you have a render cow.. so you could send the file off to render to another computer.. not sure how it all works cause I've never done it so I could be wrong there. by the way... not bashing E-on... i love Vue when it works... I think they have a great program here.. just need to re-think their copy protection system.... :)

One thing about graphics software, most people use it for a purpose and will post a picture on the net. It could be easy to find someone who is using illegally if they do anything with it. By why should that hurt the people that are legal. Also here is my big issue with it, I have a notebook also and if I am travelling I would like to do Vue on it - But I should not need another license on it. By profession, I do software development and I understand the need for copy protection.. I wrote some of it myself at my first job. But you are right, the true steels will grab it anyway and find codes on the net to defeat the copy protection. I am all for being legal, I purchase Vue Pro 4.5x and Mover 5 from e-on and I love it. My network has legal copies of windows. My concern now is that I had trouble with Installed, I had a bad disk but I figured out a way around it and got it work by suggestion from e-On. Could this software protection system, think my installed is faulty because I had trouble. I hope not. All in all, e-On looses with this in my opinion.. if my main machine is busy doing a job ( maybe not Vue ) then I can not use one of my others to work on Vue. I am curious about this copy protection, did it come with 4.x of Vue. I reads some of these forums before I purchase Vue and I was deeply concern about crashing and was thinking of waiting. But I like the images so much that I had to get it. And I love it. I have not try Render Cow, but don't know if it can render a disconnected job. If so then that would be solution for my needs. It would be nice let a render render while I working on another scene or making adjustments to existing scene.

I think I am going to installed RenderCow on one of my machines and try it out.

That's why I bought Bryce 6 months ago, Too much people have crashing problems with Vue. But Oh boy, I really like this software, it just looks fantastic. May be one day they will work for people that buy it and not working for those who try pirating it. Excuse my english Michel

I really like the images that Vue creates and the easy of use is amazing. Like anything else you must learn to live with down sides. I recently got Bryce from Daz, and I got to say I hate its interface. I didn't play with much. Of the graphics programs I try - it has the worst interface. Lightwave and Vue have the best and Mojoworld is in the middle.

thomllama ( ) posted Mon, 19 July 2004 at 9:41 PM

Well Bryce has a interface like all the old metacreation programs (Carrara, Kia power tools, etc. something started with Kia i believe) actually once you get used to it, it's great... works/looks exactly the same wether it's mac or wintel.. and that's the point of it.. you don't have to decide on a machine to run it... or that it's better on one or the other, or that you use one at home and another at work.. everything transfers exactly the same on either platform. I find the single window system (most applications use including Vue.. came from a CAD program i believe) is not to easy.. to much mousing.. i have all my palattes on one monitor (in carrara) and my main montor holds the work space and only the work space. much faster.. more menus/palettes open, more viewable work area. I don't have bryce ( I've use the demo a few times though) But i do believe Vue does a better job over bryce for Veggies...

Before I purchase Vue, I had the demo and I was able to create images with Mimimal doc and I thought it was amazing. And yes the Veggies are quite amazing in Vue, the best I have ever seen. To me a common interface between OS's usually has servere limitations because developer must take short cuts. I like Vue because its simple to use interface and not comfusing. I think Bryce was very confusing to use and ites interface got in the way. I would rather see the commands in words that I can read and not have to remember the designs on the screen.
