Subject: reversed normals

Hi, all -- I remember reading something maybe a month or two ago, but can't find it (not even using Renderosity's powerful search tools) about reversed normals and the spline modeler when duplicating with symmetry. So, maybe someone can help. I've built a spline model (it's actually a group of spline objects to form a sinuous, sensuous curved wooden wall), and needed a reverse of the same wall for the other side of my room. So, I grouped all the Spline objects together and duplicated the group with symmetry. No problem, except that when the file is displaying on my screen, all the duplicated wall seems to be kind of inside-out. It renders just fine, but when a client is looking at the stuff as I'm zipping around in Carrara's interface to show her where things are going to be, it looks really wonky. Is there any way to duplicate with symmetry, but still have the objects display properly in the GUI? If this isn't making any sense, let me know and I'll post some images when I get back home tonight. Thanks! Dex

im not sure about the spline modeler..but in the vertex just select all and then go under selection and choose reverse normals...it fixed that problem i was having...

You could bring the splines into the VM and fix the normals there. . . Markd

Thought I read the latest patch fixed the duplicate-reverses-normals issue. Be that as it may, I'm still having them too (in the vertex modeller).

Dex, On the object property panel, select "Backfaces: Show" not the default smart faces. This will make the object show up correctly in the display... Worked for me! Ken dork.gif
