No, you don't need a bump map to put a texture on a figure.
Don't confuse .bmp (bit map picture) with .bum (bump map).
The texmap may be a .bmp or a .gif or a .jpg, etc. and is loaded into the Texture Map. You do not need a Bump Map (Page 15) in order to use a texmap.
A bump map is applied like a texmap but it produces artificial shadows on a figure (or prop) to simulate ... guess what ... yup, bumps.
