Subject: Shadow issues

pbguy1211 ( ) posted Fri, 23 July 2004 at 11:39 PM · edited Wed, 18 December 2024 at 5:00 PM

I'm having an issue with getting shadows to show up during rendering. I did a search and found a few things on it, but nothing concrete. Am I not doing something that I need to be doing in order to get a shadow to show up? It's visible in the pre-render stages, but once I render I get nothing. Any help is greatly appreciated. I'm using p5 if it matters. pb

The "shadow" you see in a pre-render is not a shadow, its more like a placement guide. First of all, check that your characters and stuff in the scene is actually set to cast shadow, and also in the render settings, the Cast shadows must be ticked. Are you using raytraced or mapped shadows? Mapped shadows can sometimes dissapear if you have a large object in the scene (you can overcome this by choosing a larger shadowmap)

Also, if your shadows are being cast on a ground plane or other prop used as a "ground", ensure that shadows are turned OFF for this object. At least, that's on a P4/PP render. It doesn't really affect Firefly as far as I can tell.

ensure shadows are turned off for which object? the "ground" itself?

Using firefly? Be sure to check Cast Shadows in the Render settings, if you're only rendering in draft mode I am not sure it's checked/ticked by default.
