In light of all the recent discussions about 'Mixed Medium', it became all too apparent that guidelines needed to be set forth.

Please take a look at the image posting guidelines in the new Fractal Forum FAQ, and keep in mind that everyone's input has been taken into account, and has been MUCH appreciated.

If you feel something should be added in the FAQ, please let me know.

I hope that you won't be moving any past images from the fractal gallery to the mixed medium one without consulting the image creators! What constitutes a 'recognisable' fractal? Just because one person doesn't recognise that the constituents of a partcular image are fractal, doesn't mean that they aren't. All of my images are fractal, though many 'purists' might argue that the fractals are not always obviously recognisable.

Maybe I didn't read it good enough, but I have a question. "NOT allowed:Fractals mapped onto 3D objects which are part of a composition, and not the main focus. " Does this mean that if a fractal is mapped onto a 3D object as long as it is the main focus, it is allowed? Does this also include spheres created in UF?

Sorry don't understand so the posers added to my fractals as an accent are not allowed? they are not the main focus only an accent. ???????? to the fractal. so do I move them or not? confused as usual Carolyn

Thanks for being a leader. This decision will not be popular with everyone, but it's the right thing to do. We will all be better off in the long run.

Don't worry about the hair splitters. People will naturally try to pick apart what they don't agree with. 90% of mixed medium images are obvious, as are images where a fractal is not the main focus. As for the 10% that are not obvious, who cares? It's not worth the energy for you, or an image creator, to try to figure it out. The guidelines are good enough as they are, and they are much better than nothing.

(Now I wish that I didn't throw a fit and delete my gallery, but it's not the first time, I'm already rebuilding it :))

The guidelines were set by Barbara (DreamWarrior), and myself. So, please thank Barbara as well :) We all know there was a need to set something in place, and while it may not be wholly accepted, well...we knew that would happen. This is a FRACTAL gallery, therefore the fractal MUST be the focus. Nick

I moved all of my posers when I first read the new rules I think the problem is, its gone on so long that some are having a problem with it. I for one already moved all mine early yesterday.... I frankly don't really see a problem for those that do use other programs just simply move them over to mixed medium or delete if that is what you want to do. I found a lot of nice people in mixed medium yes it does split our little happy group apart however we all should have known sooner or later this would happen. Don't mean any disrepect to anyone but it seems fairly simple unless its all fractal program move it or do what you want if the Mods feel its a mixed medium that is where it will go Carolyn

I wasn't being a 'hair-splitter', nor am I against the new guidelines. All I was trying to clarify was what exactly was meant by the statement that old images would be moved, and will the artists be consulted?

Moved or not, they are still in your gallery, right? I don't see where the problem is.I guess I need to move a few of mine and save the management some work. It will take a few days since I'm pressed for time, but I will get them shifted to the proper place. I think the guidelines are fair, and I don't think it will hurt anything. Miriah

The reason why it bothers me, at least the reason why it would bother me if someone decided some of my images did not belong in the Fractal Gallery, is that it's not only Renderosity members who look at my gallery; and I want those people to know that all my images are created using fractals. I don't want to have to go through amending all the comments on each image to say so. It's a small thing, but I've been creating fractal images for a very long time, and like to create images using fractals that are not necessarily obviously fractal; and I don't want a third party telling me that my images are not 'fractal enough' for me to label them as such. It's really not that big a deal. All I want to know is that none of the categorisations of my images are going to be changed without my knowledge or approval.

Simon, I wasn't referring to you. There are many images that are a tough call. If they are a tough call, let them be where ever the artist chooses to put them.

Simon::: I don't want to have to go through amending all the comments on each image to say so. You don't have to amend anything everything moves including all the comments least they did on mine. I can understand where you would concern however I really don't feel its as much of problem as is being reflected. Heck on mind sure there were ones that maybe shouldn't have been moved but its just easier to move and be sure then to have Mods come later and change them. You may want to go through yours and make a list of the ones you feel need to stay and refer that list to Nick or Barbara.. May want to give that idea some thought least you would have a handle on what is being moved and what wouldn't be. just my own 2 cents worth. Carolyn

Simon, I browsed your entire gallery yesterday and haven't found a single piece that might need to be moved. All of your pieces are recognisable fractals to me, so you don't need to worry. Gorgeous gallery, btw! Barbara

As representatives of Renderosity, in the roles of Moderator, and Coordinator of this forum, it is our duty to make sure images are in their proper gallery. As a member, you have a right to post images on this site, however you also have to adhere to rules set forth. If an image is moved, you will be notified, but you will not have the say as to where it should be, if it is against the rules.
Just as in any other gallery here, if something doesn't belong, it needs to be moved.
There is a 'Mixed Medium' gallery on this site, and as such, it needs to be utilized.
For a long time, we have not had specific guidelines set here. As stated previously, there became a need for it, as this gallery became a place for both 'Mixed Medium', and 'Fractals'.
A line had to be drawn.

Wherever they are linking to your gallery from, just specify to them that they were created using fractals.

This is in no way, a means to censor, or punish anyone.

It just basically says that the moon isn't made of cheese, it's made of stale bread crumbs and suet. It also says that Portsmouth Football Club will win the Premiership this coming season and get into the Champions League, and next season we will rule Europe with our superior stamina and precise passing skills. Last but not least it asks "where do we post the 'totally sweet fractal ninja' pics?" Zopf.

I just have to say that it that it was a pleasure to stroll through the fractal gallery today and see page after page of fractal images! I also filtered on mixed medium/fractals and saw many amazing images. That's certainly worth paying attention to now. The universe is in balance.

Totally agree. People go to a fractal gallery to see fractals and that's what's happening now. Nice to see leadership in action also.
