Subject: Angelic sound effect

buijon ( ) posted Thu, 29 July 2004 at 9:58 AM ยท edited Sun, 03 November 2024 at 12:59 PM

Im looking for the classic "hum" that is usually associated with angels, or say in a movie when a character finds an important object and it glows....making a heavenly "ahhhhhhhh"...i need it for a short 30 second animation, so im hoping for one thats maybe 5-10 seconds in length. Thanks in advance

Vox Humana, eh? (or would that be Vox Angelus?) Any friendly person with a synth should have one of those patches. Or -- not as "authentic" but a nicer sound -- find a quiet bit of choral music. If all else, go to SoundDogs.com Searchable, downloadable, reasonable prices. I use them all the time on projects.

What's that 'Sisters of Mercy' song with the "ahhhhhhhh" bit at the beginning? This Corrosion? You could try sampling that or s'thing like it.

I beleive the correct summation is.... Foooooooookin' Drrrrrrooooooooooooooool......

buijon ( ) posted Thu, 29 July 2004 at 7:03 PM

lol....wav would be nice....Not sure if it is you who also emailed me, but id like about 10 seconds of a straight angelic tone...obviously with the "ahhhhh" sound...like when halos appear over peoples heads or something sacred is found... email buijon@yahoo.com Many thanks :)

TalleyJC ( ) posted Thu, 29 July 2004 at 8:37 PM

Its seldom a straight tone for ten seconds, but I'll do that if you'd like. Commonly there's a few variations choose what your're thinking: there's the hallalujah type four chords: Haaa laaa loooo Yaa Two chords same feeling laaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa daaaaaaaaaaa eight count monk chant dom in ay e ek we tay . . e tay ek way rek we em minor chords like the omen, which are both demonic or show the power of god. then the mystical low tone with magic sparkles, major chord happy and bright like et or close encounters or the same using minor, darker chords with more church bell type over tones showing deep magic that is good, a bit dangerous and possibly able to be used for evil -indiana jones and the temple of doom

uh... sharing? I'd love any of those also TalleyJC (more pleasant sounding alarm clock alert files than what I'd been using -- pinball .wav's that came with WinXP - yeech). :!Caution!: Drifting now, -- but I'd like the idea of a kinda chord shift of non-verbal choral sounds.... but distinctly emotive. For alarms, two would be cool, -- An upbeat tone of enlightenment or revelation (the sound you might hear in a clichscene of Pearly-Gates opening with heavenly light pouring out?) and another downer one, not to heavy or evil, but suggestive of nudging guilt or regret. (for alarms I want to do, and those others that I must -- whadya think?). Sorry, because I tend to forget about the long ones, was just setting up a new desktop clock to play an alarm when Renders are estimated to be done, when I saw this -- so right on my topic!

(the sound you might hear in a clichscene of Pearly-Gates opening with heavenly light pouring out?) that sounds good. Also the 10 seconds is so i can do the fading myself at the proper moments. No "ha la lu ya' please....just maybe 1 oooo and 1 ahhhh each of 10 seconds? Or all if your making them lol and i`ll pick the one that fits best ;) Thanks a million

OOooh. Nice rack! (salivate, salivate). Is that the Obie module there, with the patch board elevated?

Smoovie ( ) posted Fri, 30 July 2004 at 4:25 AM

I just sent you some short and long aaahs vocals w/slight reverb. Nice set-up TalleyJC. I see you have a reel to reel. I've only read about those.

DaleB: Nicely put =0)

Nomuse: No, that my friend is one of the original Mini Moogs. She's vintage, near perfect condition, big and mean.

Smoovie:I use my computer to record. the reel to reel is a vintage AKAI 2 track. I use it for special effects mostly. I'll set up odd tape loops (like the beatles did) or for capturing things I need really saturated and warm. Once captured it gets re-recorded digital on to the computer with all the nice tube and tape fuzzies.

BuiJon: I don't have much in the ways of ooo's (eeewww's) that sound really convincing. I emailed you a 2.6mb wav of the mighty mellotron choir with some other sparkles mixed in.

nance:check you IM

Mini-moog. Ouch. That was my second guess. Yah, I've used reel-to-reel in similar ways. Also dubbed one effect on to a used cassette, with levels run up to solid red, for the "crunch" it gave. Also once dubbed over a pristine digital we were using to simulate an old Victrola, and put my thumb on the flange of the 10" reel for the wobble effect. Combined that with endless-tape loop of the guard tracks on a nicely scratched-up LP. All my collection of choral sounds is A) JV80 cards, B) old S-550 samples, C) tapes I made of our 80-member community chorus (which I don't have right to re-distribute). I've used the first two in designs before, but always hidden deep in the mix! :(

As long as digital recording has been out, they still have not come up with something to get that sterile sound out, and warm things up. Analog is still the best for recording vocals I like to use a couple of the older samplers for warming things up a bit. I picked up a Mini-Moog at a garage sale, for $30. Man, did my jaw drop when I saw that. I don't think they knew what they were selling.

dam nice set up ther tally looks like Brent s from the Gratful Dead set up.

TalleyJC ( ) posted Fri, 30 July 2004 at 6:13 PM

Smoovie: I've found that you get great results with a good mic, a tube driven pre-amp (left most bottom rack, second from the bottom) Methastopholis : I'm more a Tony Banks guy...
