Greetings all - Just a quick note to let you know that both the Windows and Macintosh versions of UVMapper have been updated. You can get them with either of the following links: http://home.pb.net/~stevecox http://www.uvmapper.com In anticipation of UVMapper Pro, I've registered UVMapper.com and have mirrored my site there for the moment. In time it will be the primary site so any links you may have should point there. I'm currently working on a complete site update which I hope to have done before too long. If anyone has pictures they would like considered for the gallery, links to tutorials, etc. please send me a note at stevecox@optonline.net and let me know. I'd love to see them! Here's what's new: Model triangulation, see Help->Hotkeys (Win/Mac) Ability to import UVs for selected facets/vertices only (Win/Mac) Ability to import UVs from .obj files (Win/Mac) Sphere and Torus primitive (Windows) Improved cylindrical, cap & spherical mapping modes (Windows) UVs import and export (Macintosh) Cylindrical Cap mapping mode (Macintosh) Model rotation for desired projection (Macintosh) Greatly improved model load times (Macintosh) Please let me know if you have any problems with these new versions. I'd also like to hear any and all comments, suggestions, etc. Enjoy! Steve

Great Steve! Thanks. Is the exploded vertex feature part of this build? -JH.

Steve Cox ( ) posted Wed, 01 November 2000 at 1:26 PM

Yes, go to Edit->Tools->Split Vertices to do it. This will cause every edge to be hard in Poser. I'm currently coding a routine for UVMapper Pro that will allow you to specify a cutoff angle so that only facets exceeding the angle will have their vertices split. I'm planning on making it work by selection as well so you'll be able to change the angle for different parts of the model. I've also gotten the vertex reorder feature working in UVMapper Pro (in fact, Zygote needed me to reorder Vickie's hair morph target for this weeks freebie =) I'm now making it recognize groups/materials so you can give it an entire model and it will sort out what can and can not be reordered (at the moment it only works on entire models.) More as it develops...

Very cool.

Many thanks Steve. Looking forward to checking out the pro version.

Steve, Thank you for making such a great thing available to us. Being a regular Amorphium user, I don't know WHAT I'd do were it not for UV Mapper! Cheers, Mike

Mason ( ) posted Wed, 01 November 2000 at 2:36 PM

Thanks Steve! This awesome. BTW I've always had problems with UVMapper and drag and drop where drag and drop won't work. Any chance that is fixed? Makes life just a little easier cause I can tie your app to my objs as the default loader. Also, are you using Codewarrior for your duel ports or just have it on two platforms?

Steve Cox ( ) posted Wed, 01 November 2000 at 2:44 PM

Peter, Mike - thanks for the kind words =) Mason - thanks for the reminder about drag and drop... and sorry that I haven't gotten around to fixing this yet. But I have moved it up on my "to do" list. I'm using Codewarrior on the Mac side and Visual C++ on the PC side. I'm not using a shared codebase at the moment but it's something I'm planning for going forward (UVMapper Pro...) It should be easier to do now that I've got my home network set up for both =)

Yeah thanks Steve, I'd be lost without this utility :) philc_agatha_white_on_black.jpg

dcort ( ) posted Wed, 01 November 2000 at 4:26 PM

Thanks from me, too. The UV import/export feature is a godsend. It couldn't have come at a better time for me. Any chance for numeric precision positioning of UV maps in the future?

willf ( ) posted Wed, 01 November 2000 at 4:55 PM

Very nice, thanks much. The import times for MAC obj's are no comparrison to the previous version. Guess I'll have to figure another time to get a cup of coffee.

Steve Cox ( ) posted Wed, 01 November 2000 at 4:59 PM

LOL, sorry about that willf ;) PhilC - thanks! dcort - funny you should mention this, I just added it to my "to do" list for UVMapper Pro. I was slicing up a model and thought how useful it would be to know the coordinates of the cursor (the coordinates of the selection would be nice to know too...) Perhaps in the status bar or maybe an information palette like in PhotoShop. I guess this should go along with the ability to set up a grid and snap the selection to it. Thanks for the suggestion!

dcort ( ) posted Wed, 01 November 2000 at 5:22 PM

I'm looking forward to the Pro version. I asked about numeric postioning because I also use a freeware app called Mapping Magician. If you haven't heard of it it's a PC app that allows you to move UV maps around, either by dragging or by entering values in a dialog. You can't create maps like you can in UV mapper, but if you're doing a Poser figure, for example, and want to put the head in one spot, the body in another, etc., I find it easier to do this by entering values.

PJF ( ) posted Wed, 01 November 2000 at 6:29 PM

Steve, I'm probably asking the obvious, but is there a 'feature list' for what you have in mind for UVMapper Pro?

DgerzeeBoy ( ) posted Wed, 01 November 2000 at 7:31 PM

Very generous, Steve. You've earned a place on the Poser Mt. Rushmore...

Steve Cox ( ) posted Wed, 01 November 2000 at 7:47 PM

Thanks MARK =) Peter - I haven't actually formalized the list yet... at the moment, it's more like a collection of notes to myself written on napkins and other stuff =P How about I tally up the list, post it here (maybe in a new thread) and ask for the features others would like to see as a wish list. Sound good?

Jim Burton ( ) posted Wed, 01 November 2000 at 8:00 PM

Gee! Thanks Steve! I also would be very much lost without UV Mapper, Looking forward to UVMapper Pro.

davo ( ) posted Wed, 01 November 2000 at 8:03 PM

Steve!! I love UVMapper!! I do have one question, maybe a wishlist item, or maybe it already exists and I am just not aware. Is it, would it, be possible to constrain the movement of parts in the up/down/right left direction? Also is it, would it be possible to constrain the scaling of an object? Like if I select a part, then want to resize it by pulling a corner, can it be constrained to scale evenly? Thanks a bajillion, Davo

Marque ( ) posted Wed, 01 November 2000 at 9:28 PM

Makes me redouble my efforts to learn C++ 8^) Thanks again for such an awesome program. Marque

duesentrieb ( ) posted Thu, 02 November 2000 at 3:05 AM

Thanks, Steve! There would be no texture maps if I didn't have your magnificent tool!

bloodsong ( ) posted Thu, 02 November 2000 at 7:18 AM

wohoooo!!!!!!!!!!! thanks, steve!!! oh goodie goodie... now i'll have to make something to try it out with!! oh, i know...! :)

Steve Cox ( ) posted Thu, 02 November 2000 at 10:16 AM

Jim, Marque, duesentrieb and bloodsong - thanks, I appreciate it =) Davo - I'm planning on adding the ability to hold the shift key when dragging a corner of the seleciton to preserve the aspect ratio. At the moment, you can sort of do this with the keypad +/- keys (and shift +/-) These will resize the selection while preserving the aspect ratio. Also, have a look at the hotkeys (Help->Hot keys) to see the other scaling options.

davo ( ) posted Thu, 02 November 2000 at 10:29 AM

Cool Steve, thanks for a great program. Davo

I found that it crased on startup on my mac. But increasing the memory allocated to it fixed that. [G3, OS 9.1, VM off]

Steve Cox ( ) posted Thu, 02 November 2000 at 1:08 PM

Thanks James =) Doozy, what was memory allocation before and after the problem? Thanks.

doozy ( ) posted Thu, 02 November 2000 at 1:45 PM

Memory before was the default, I think about 32000-something. I upped it to 50000 and it ran fine. A smaller amount would probably also have worked, but I didn't worry about it. Bu the way... I am hoping for a UVMapper for mac that can assign groups and materials.

Steve Cox ( ) posted Thu, 02 November 2000 at 1:59 PM

Thanks for the info, Doozy. I'm interested to hear if anyone else has seen this with the Mac version. As for assigning groups and materials, it's one of the next things on the "to do" list.

doozy ( ) posted Fri, 03 November 2000 at 9:45 AM

I tried the Mac version on my home Mac last night. There, too, it froze on startup. But increasing the memory did not fix it. Looks like a conflict with QuicKeys. I use QK so much that I think I will revert to the previous version of UVMapper for the moment.

Steve... thanks! We are all lost without this gem. Doug
