Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2024 Dec 23 7:38 pm)
Yes, go to Edit->Tools->Split Vertices to do it. This will cause every edge to be hard in Poser. I'm currently coding a routine for UVMapper Pro that will allow you to specify a cutoff angle so that only facets exceeding the angle will have their vertices split. I'm planning on making it work by selection as well so you'll be able to change the angle for different parts of the model. I've also gotten the vertex reorder feature working in UVMapper Pro (in fact, Zygote needed me to reorder Vickie's hair morph target for this weeks freebie =) I'm now making it recognize groups/materials so you can give it an entire model and it will sort out what can and can not be reordered (at the moment it only works on entire models.) More as it develops...
Thanks Steve! This awesome. BTW I've always had problems with UVMapper and drag and drop where drag and drop won't work. Any chance that is fixed? Makes life just a little easier cause I can tie your app to my objs as the default loader. Also, are you using Codewarrior for your duel ports or just have it on two platforms?
Peter, Mike - thanks for the kind words =) Mason - thanks for the reminder about drag and drop... and sorry that I haven't gotten around to fixing this yet. But I have moved it up on my "to do" list. I'm using Codewarrior on the Mac side and Visual C++ on the PC side. I'm not using a shared codebase at the moment but it's something I'm planning for going forward (UVMapper Pro...) It should be easier to do now that I've got my home network set up for both =)
LOL, sorry about that willf ;) PhilC - thanks! dcort - funny you should mention this, I just added it to my "to do" list for UVMapper Pro. I was slicing up a model and thought how useful it would be to know the coordinates of the cursor (the coordinates of the selection would be nice to know too...) Perhaps in the status bar or maybe an information palette like in PhotoShop. I guess this should go along with the ability to set up a grid and snap the selection to it. Thanks for the suggestion!
I'm looking forward to the Pro version. I asked about numeric postioning because I also use a freeware app called Mapping Magician. If you haven't heard of it it's a PC app that allows you to move UV maps around, either by dragging or by entering values in a dialog. You can't create maps like you can in UV mapper, but if you're doing a Poser figure, for example, and want to put the head in one spot, the body in another, etc., I find it easier to do this by entering values.
Thanks MARK =) Peter - I haven't actually formalized the list yet... at the moment, it's more like a collection of notes to myself written on napkins and other stuff =P How about I tally up the list, post it here (maybe in a new thread) and ask for the features others would like to see as a wish list. Sound good?
Steve!! I love UVMapper!! I do have one question, maybe a wishlist item, or maybe it already exists and I am just not aware. Is it, would it, be possible to constrain the movement of parts in the up/down/right left direction? Also is it, would it be possible to constrain the scaling of an object? Like if I select a part, then want to resize it by pulling a corner, can it be constrained to scale evenly? Thanks a bajillion, Davo
Jim, Marque, duesentrieb and bloodsong - thanks, I appreciate it =) Davo - I'm planning on adding the ability to hold the shift key when dragging a corner of the seleciton to preserve the aspect ratio. At the moment, you can sort of do this with the keypad +/- keys (and shift +/-) These will resize the selection while preserving the aspect ratio. Also, have a look at the hotkeys (Help->Hot keys) to see the other scaling options.

Greetings all - Just a quick note to let you know that both the Windows and Macintosh versions of UVMapper have been updated. You can get them with either of the following links: http://home.pb.net/~stevecox http://www.uvmapper.com In anticipation of UVMapper Pro, I've registered UVMapper.com and have mirrored my site there for the moment. In time it will be the primary site so any links you may have should point there. I'm currently working on a complete site update which I hope to have done before too long. If anyone has pictures they would like considered for the gallery, links to tutorials, etc. please send me a note at stevecox@optonline.net and let me know. I'd love to see them! Here's what's new: Model triangulation, see Help->Hotkeys (Win/Mac) Ability to import UVs for selected facets/vertices only (Win/Mac) Ability to import UVs from .obj files (Win/Mac) Sphere and Torus primitive (Windows) Improved cylindrical, cap & spherical mapping modes (Windows) UVs import and export (Macintosh) Cylindrical Cap mapping mode (Macintosh) Model rotation for desired projection (Macintosh) Greatly improved model load times (Macintosh) Please let me know if you have any problems with these new versions. I'd also like to hear any and all comments, suggestions, etc. Enjoy! Steve
