Subject: Replacement body parts using external OBJ?

dke ( ) posted Thu, 02 November 2000 at 3:03 PM · edited Wed, 05 February 2025 at 2:31 PM

Is this possible? Basically, I cut up a torso I had laying around, and used it to replace parts in the Poser model. Once saved though, the cr2 has the new parts as GeoCustom blocks, which it makes it difficult to recreate them without going through the whole process again. Was kind of hoping there was a way to have the replacement parts get their info from a second (or more) obj file over and above the figureRes one in the cr2. Some kind of syntax change similar to the pp2 usage? Bruce

I have a GeomSwitching tutorial in the files section of my PoserTech mailing list. Maybe that might do the trick? http://www.egroups.com/group/PoserTECH -Jeff H.

Just signed up there earlier today, so will look around for the tutorial. Lot's of other interesting stuff there as well. Actually got it to read two separate obj files, so next try going for all four replacement parts for the torso. Messes it up when/if you save it to a new cr2, so still missing something. Pretty sure I missed the bottom section. But at least it can just read them, so don't have to go back and import/place/replace them every time I change one piece. Bruce

Yeah, poser won't save those extra obj pointers. The head switching example file is a P4 figure. You can get it to work by pointing it to the P3 version of the OBJ file and directory. -JH.

Yeah, noticed about the save problem. Also seems to muck about creating rsr/resource files, and then won't let go of them (or access the changed obj,) unless you quit! :) Sheesh, I had about 23 copies of the countinuing revisions to a 2MB obj before I finally decided that was enough. Took me a half an hour just to throw away all the extra copies :) Ah well. Now I have some tempting ideas for utilities to help with this modeling/trying process. :) Bruce

It is a pain to continually have to close and re-open poser to get access to the RSR, but I've gotten used to it over time ;-) -JH.
