Subject: Ronstuff on P5 text

I was browsing for micro-poly displacement and found this: http://www.virtuallyhistorical.com/downloads/819_Modeling%20for%20Poser.htm Anyone ever read this ronstuff text on Poser5?

I have tried prudent planning long enough. From now I'll be mad. (Rumi)

Definately new to me, a lot of good info for new users.

I hadn't seen that before but know of RonStuff. He has helped me with some questions at the Runtimedna Poser 5 forum many times.

Here is an example of Micro-polygon Displacement used as a modeling extension. A low-poly mesh can be displaced to yield similar results to a very high polygon mesh.

Here is how P5 uses Micro-polygon displacement as mesh-smoothing. I should point out that when you uncheck (turn off) "Smooth polygons" in P5 you are only deactivating the MP smoothing but the normal shaded phong smoothing is still present, but the surface is not displaced.

Ron stuff, I just read your text/article/tut and I find it fascinating and well written. Wish I'd known this months ago. Thanks also for these examples. The main 3D app I am learning is Cinema4D, and I've arrived at Normalmaps (bump on steroids, based on color info in stead of only greyscale, and something totally different from micro-poly displacement). I hope that MPD will be included n C4D9 (Tomorrow we'll know more...) Mods: I find Ronstuff's article should be added to the mustread articles/tuts on P5. What do you think?

You just can't put the words "Poserites" and "happy" in the same sentence - didn't you know that? LaurieA

LOL - sorry about that - I just got distracted for a bit, but yes, I'm gonna get it finished soon cause it really is a great model and a good example of what can be done with displacement. As I was working on it I learned a lot about the kind of mapping to use, and how to control the various shapes with gradients so I'm working on a tutorial to share all that info too. ;-)
