Subject: V3 and Poser 5 - the mega long list of dials.

compiler ( ) posted Tue, 10 August 2004 at 12:49 PM · edited Thu, 26 December 2024 at 6:23 PM

I finally decided to use V3 to make some characters.
I work with Poser5 sr4.

What is really annoying is the ultra looooong list of empty morphs that clutter the parameter palette. :?

I mean : V3 works all right for one shot uses, but when you save the character you created to the library (even if you made absolutely no modifications whatsoever), then the next time you'll load this character in Poser5, you'll have a mile long list of empty dials, ready for injection (more than 50 dials for each of the finger parts !!! )

The solution would be to make groups to store these unwanted dials, and this is the theme of my post (at last) :

Has anybody made such a cr2 ? Empty morphs stored in convenient groups and sub-groups, easy to navigate ?

This would be a huge time-saver !
Thanks in advance for any idea that can make my life with V3 better.

you can hide those empty dials with the free Dial Cleaner app which can be found in the DAZ freebie archive.

If you have a look on the V3 product page there's a free utility called Dial Cleaner which works to remove the empty dials from a cr2. Works pretty well in my experience but always make a backup copy first :)

heh. This is the downside of Hacks As A Business Model. yeah, the dial cleaner is definitely the tool you want, but since the Cr2 is distributable, that's actually a really good idea, compiler.

Thanks for the tip. It hides dials with delta infos in them. I still have the groups to set up, but with a manageable list of dials this time... @ynsaen : it would be cool to have an updated Morph Manager that would let us make and arange groups...

I like to know how to use this dial cleaner. While running P5?. Because I see it to and I am dealing with it. Kinda annoying scrolling up and down, looking for a specific dial, and I end up missing it. Waiting for DAZ to fix this for P5. I just dunno how to use the Dial Cleaner.

Dial cleaner is very simple to use : 1- save your character to the library 2- launch dial cleaner 3- browse to the library folder you stored your character in 4- hit "clean files" All the morph dials that do nothing (have no deltas attached to them) will be hidden. Those who are active will still be shown, even if their value is set at 0. Each time you'll resave your character to the library, you'll have to run dial cleaner again. It works also for characters in a pz3 scene, but I haven't tested this yet.

I really hope that at some point in the future CL creates something built-in to the software that hides dials. For example, once I've got a character set up, I don't need many of the dials to animate it. They just get in the way when I'm looking for specific parameters that I want to animate.

Before they made me they broke the mold!

Anybody careto share a copy of Dial Cleaner? I just left the Daz website and all my searches had no results. Thanks in advance

Ockham has a really powerful set of 4 python scripts in a pack called AltDialCleaners. They work while the figure is active in Poser and will hide all unused dials OR they can also hide all zero dials. There are two versions of each script. The second version saves a run-script command when you save the figure to your library so that whenever you load the figure again the script automatically runs. This means you never have to run the script again. Of course, don't overwrite the original figure cause you may want some of those dials visible at another time.

In P5 you can simply group the dials how you want them. Just create dial groups and throw the dials in their respective categories. Then save the figure to the library. I do that to almost every 3rd party figure I get.

I made free pose files for V3 and M3... that groups the dials... I'm going to do it for Steph Petite and other figuers too... Just go on my website... There are 6 pz2 files for each set: It make categories for: -All the figure -Only the body -Only the head Each come with or without INJ instructions. The red thumbnail inject all the necessary information and may take a while to load. I used all the morphs from body and head pak for M3. If you load the pz2 file with INJ, be sure to have the both packages installed. If you don't, load the INJ information with the DAZ original files and only after load the pz2 file, without INJ information. I used all the morphs from body and head pak for V3, and also the International Beauties morphs. If you load the pz2 file with INJ, be sure to have all three packages installed. If you don't, load the INJ information with the DAZ original files and only after load the pz2 file, without INJ information. Hope it will be usefull...

You are right Stewer, and I do the same usually, but doing this in Poser for 60+ dials for each and every part is a nightmare. That's where FreeBass pose is interesting.

stewer ( ) posted Mon, 16 August 2004 at 3:08 AM

What's missing are content providers that provide P5 CR2s with grouped dials. I'm afraid that we can't expect that for the DAZ figures soon, but I'd love to be proven wrong.

FreeBass ( ) posted Wed, 18 August 2004 at 12:15 AM

Ya know the funny/ stupid/ ironic ting? I've had my tingy tested by P4 users...it duz nothin', nada zip, doody. Good or bad. So content prividers could easily do this w/o regard as to who uses their stuff; if is a P5 user, Bonus! If is a P4 user, no big deal; no harm, no foul.
