Subject: Completley lost: Installing Files in P5

Rashida ( ) posted Mon, 09 August 2004 at 3:50 PM ยท edited Thu, 09 January 2025 at 12:59 PM

Well it seems I've gone and done it. I messed up P5 bad enough (and got aggrivated enough) that I un-installed it. I plan to re-install and start with a clean slate. But before I do that I have a question. I have smoe great bits and pieces for P5 that I would like to use. But I have no clue where to install them, unless they are self installing (such a nifty thing that). I am very new at this, I spent a lot of time working with just the basic P5 program but now I want to add the bells and whistles. Any help is much appreciated. ~Ra

first rule of forums... read the FAQ... any tips not in the FAQ would still be appreciated

Most of the freebies here are in self-installing .zip files these days. Most of those that don't have the information in readme files. I do have a tutorial on where things need to go, but it's missing the P5 materials. .mt5 files and their corresponding thumbnails need to go into RuntimelibrariesMaterial folder. http://www.fallencity.net/tut-posb/p-file-locations.php Hope it helps, Cres

My recommendation for starting from scratch: install everything to temporary folders to see where things would go. Sometimes artists mis-spell things: libairies instead of Libraries, Poses, instead of Pose, etc. (Stuff with DAZ installers is usually ok. It's the zip files that can be a mess.) You can always drag and drop to your Poser folders after.

The first entry in the Poser FAQ (link at the top of the page just above the Forum banner) is my attempt at showing where everything goes.

Well, if we are talking about Poser5, there is no need to install files into the Poser root-directory, 'cause P5 can read multiple runtimes. Means, where ever you unziped a downloaded Runtime folder, P5 will recognize it as a workable file-path. (If the creator used the right folder hierachy - see my second posting comming along as an example) Cheers PaulBohne

You might try just composing a new image based on the parts of different images. I do that a lot.

hmmmmm One could try checking out the RDNA P5 forum -- much of this is answered there (www.runtimedna.com) one could also download the 5 things pdf linked here and read through it -- to get the stuff of useful ness out of it...
