Subject: Too Many Vickis?

I've been having trouble rendering three or more Vicki characters together when each figure is using a different texture map. I get a message that "a requested bump (or texture) map is missing or can't be read." I know that all my maps are properly saved and formatted because I've used them successfully when rendering individual figures. It's the use of three or more that causes the problem. I know that Vicki's maps are very large and require a lot of memory. I'd conclude, then, that the problem lies in insufficient memory. But I've upped the memory for Poser to 300 megs of RAM! This already borders on the ridiculous, so I don't think RAM is the problem. Has anyone tried creating smaller Vicki maps to save memory? Are the maps, in fact, the source of the trouble? Is anyone here using multiple Vickis (and multiple Vicki maps) without difficulty?

I have an Athalon 550 and 384 Megs of ram and have rendered, together, 3 Vicky's and 4 Mikes all mapped AND dressed with no problems other than sluggishness. Try making sure all your maps are converted to JPG. -Darth_Logice

I got that problem too, when I tried to use more than two vickie at the same time. Also I when I tried to load a texture, sometimes I get an already loaded message or I click on the texture and Poser refuses to load it all. butch

Query: Are the people having problems with the Vickie's all running on Mac's or does the problem occur on both platforms? I myself fear to tread where Darth Logice walks as I am merely equipped with a measly 64 megs of ram. I yearn for the money so I can upgrade...

I have a gateway with 128 meg of ram running window 98. it also has a 466 celron processor. Using just Posette, the most figures that I ever got to run in poser was 5. Then it was so slow rendering that I thought at first something was wrong with the computer butch

Any time I want to render a scene with Vickie + any other character, etc. I turn on virtual memory on my old G3-only 160 Mb of Real RAM. I usually give it a total of 300 or so. Otherwise I get the cant find texture, bump message. And sometimes Poser 4.18 loses the existing texture maps (until I close and reopen it-when it is running out of memory to eat! On a Mac at least P4 is a memory hog-and does not willingly release RAM once it has used it. There have been times when it has been necessary to save an in-work scene, close P4 and reopen it to get it to work properly. This was once mentioned as a recognized problem "memory leaks" but at least for the Mac was never resolved. Ah well. I have rendered two vickies-including a Very highly morph targetted Marilyn (Darth's masterwork) which included a boatload of extra morphs. Dont think there is a Morph Manager for the Mac so once a morph is loaded its there forever. Good luck! Eric Walters

I think you can use the hierchy editor to remove unwanted morphs..you have to choose show all paramaters in it then becareful, becase sometimes you migh tinadvertantly delete you figure :(
