Subject: missing png images in library

mayhem ( ) posted Mon, 16 August 2004 at 11:28 PM ยท edited Fri, 07 February 2025 at 3:47 AM

Does anyone know how to call up missing png files in the library tab? All I have is a list of the available (figures, poses, etc.) and sometimes blank squares. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Mac? There is a program "Poser5 for Mac - converter" that will fix it. It is sold at www.poserpros.com. There was a post in the Macintosh forum a couple of months ago about an alpha rsr2png converter, but it's the by the same guy, so I suppose the file is not there anymore. Another way is to open the picture in Graphics Converter and remove the alpha channel. PC? Don't know :)

Do you have the "Shrugging Guy" default png or are the library entries compressed and just showing the name?

mayhem ( ) posted Tue, 17 August 2004 at 8:21 AM

Neilp- I have both. Some libraries contain the shrugging guy, some contain the full size square without the shrugging guy and just a grey circle, and some are just compressed and listed.

Shrugging guy means no .rsr file which is used by P4, and which gets converted automatically to .png by ProPack and P5. You may have a .png files which is of no use to P4. Grey circle in ProPack or P5 means that the .png file is not in the right format. PP/P5 require a .png with an alpha channel to define the area to be displayed, and .png files do not have to have an alpha channel. The easiest way to deal with either is to download P3do from the link given above. Including the Convert Rsr2Png plugin. For shrugging guy in P4 run the Rsr2Png converter to convert .png to .rsr on the individual folder in question (it'll do the whole folder in one pass). For grey circle in PP or P5: - if you have an .rsr then delete (or rename) the .png and then run the convert .rsr to .png step as above. - if you don't have a .rsr, then first run Convert Rsr2Png to convert the .png to a .rsr, then do the delete .png run convert .rsr to png step.

I have P5. So converting the whole folder with the Rsr2Png converter should solve the grey circle problem? What of the list that is compressed without any thumbnail?

layingback ( ) posted Tue, 17 August 2004 at 12:15 PM

P3do is free, so just give it a try. A very valuable utility for many other reasons. No thumbnail at all??? Then render an image that takes your fancy at 91 x 91 pixels, save as .png, named to match the .cr2, .pz2, etc. file. No need to use P3do in this case, as P5 accpets .png's.

The list without any thumbnail: Do you have a lot of stuff in the folder (more than 100 items)? P5 SR4 put a limit in the file Runtime:Prefs:LibraryPrefs.xml. Open that file in a text editor and in the end of the 4th line you'll find: previewNum="100" change 100 to whatever you want, and save back. To be safe, make a backup of the file first.

MarianneR- I've heard of that method- I didn't realize I needed to edit code. I may separate the contents into two separate folders instead. I will try the P3do when I get home, I had just purchased Gillian and there are grey circles where I'm sure thumbnails of the different mats and mor inj should be.

Mayhem, It's an easy edit to the xml file. Any text editor will do - e.g. NotePad. Change it to 1000 by adding a 0 should do it, you'll never have that many. Dumb idea for CL to add this restriction. The background is reputedly that some were complaining that the libraries took to long to open, so CL's response was to articifical stop Poser displaying more than 100 items per library. The real fix SWAMP posted yesterday to this forum. But the 100 limit may not be the issue here, as you'd be missing items all togetehr, not just images.
