What I really want to know is HOW you create the wonderful mats that you use. My dilemma is always been (among other things) realistic textures for the objects in my scenes.
Beautiful Image by the way,

---also, what do you feel about posting images that you like yourself, but may not be that good in your own opinion. All of yours seem perfect when you post.

Hmm, well good textures have many different layers to them. Most of mine come from photographs, adds to the realism. by layers I mean that it's very important to think of what the object actually looks like, is it highly specular, are there reflections, how reflective is it. is there a bumb on it (no matter how small bump can add a WHOLE lot). As far as posting images, I really don't 'love' any of my images, I always feel like I could do better with a few more renders etc. This was the first completed render of the scene, and I decided to live with it so that I could work on my next image. I do post some WIPS in the forum, if you scroll down to the creating environment post I made yesterday you will see a WIP of this image, I didn't really like that render's look at all, but I posted it just to explain the technique. But yeah, if I really liked a way a render looked, even if it wasn't perfect, of course I'd post it. But unfortunately if I can't get an image exactly how I want it, I usually don't like it that much. I can see so many things that I'd like to change in this image, but either don't have the time or technical knowledge to do it.
I think one of the main things is that I've never really spent more than a day or two on an image (with a few exceptions) but never more than one week, and rarely over 2 days. I think for the next monthly challenge (the mystery one) I'm going to spend some more time on the image (maybe a week-ish) and see how that works out.

Bah, I didn't mean it like that, I don't really have much skill I just goof around... I just mean I wonder what (if any) difference more time would make. It might end up the same as if I did it in a day or two.. who knows. I'm just curious. (but I'll probably run out of motivation after three days and just post what I have, lol).
i can't make it work after more than 2 days either, actually. and i say 2 days because i might be busy, usually one day is all i need, and the render takes another few hours of the next one. granted, if i actually dedicated myself i could probably come out with much better things.. but meh. it's a hobby drac
Exactly. Which is why when I see renders and people say "this has been in the making for 10 months" note hot 20, I say, yeah wow that's an AMAZING image, but 10 months? I really wonder what I could accomplish in 10 months time of working on one image. I'd think you'd hit the wall after... a couple weeks? It's like buying audio equipment, if you spend $10 on speakers they'll sound horrible.. if you spend $600 they'll sound amazing, and if you spend 10,000... they might sound a little better than if you spent 600, but it's mainly a waste. I feel the same way about bryce.
hmmmm....2 days an image,I wish I could do that.I always spend a mimnimum of 1 month doing scene research, texture creation,2d scene sketch's,modeling and whatever else the image may need. Then it gets thrown in a folder to be compiled. But I have yet to put one finished pic in the gallery(all rendertests). You should note though I went to school for illustration&design,so alot of times I won't put my 3d stuff up because it pales in comparison to my 2d art.I never can stop adding to images either. There is always a flaw to be fixed and improved on in my images,so I wait till its done.I have a file that started out in bryce 4 at 26megs,and now is at 1.3gig file size and very old..I may never finish.I say stick to the small stuff, or you will never finish...like me.lol. anyways, good stuff. My only crit is to do a larger scene. All of the stuff in your gallery seems to be close-ups(not that that is bad), but you dont seem to be challenged by the small stuff anymore.Maybe time for the next level and nip at Rochr's heels.

1 WEEK!!!-ISH!!!!! Im with twistedbolt on this. None of my pieces ever feel done (curse of being an artist I guess :P) but if I only spent a week on something I would feel I didnt put enough effort into it. But thats just me. Those of you who can do incredable images with a "day or 2's time" are a source of insperation,or at least should be, to those of us who are still crawlin. NICE WORK!!!
Sadly some of us have other things to do in life than render. That 'wall' still comes and goes and we sit and wonder what we could do to improve the image in question. Most of the time is probably spent with the pic sitting on the back-burner waiting for that final bit of inspiration.

And in my final hours - I would cling rather to the tattooed hand of kindness - than the unblemished hand of hate...
Yeah, that's the other problem... But by 1 day I don't mean.. 24 hours.. most of the images take about 2 hours of work, which I usually do between 10 PM and 2 AM. then I render and post it in the morning. However most of my images probably are running in the back of my mind for say... 8 hours before I ever put anything down in bryce. Usually while working =P. I think it may be better to spend a half an hour a day on an image and space it out over a few days. Sometimes I just get really frustrated when I can't get the look I'm going for.

Well, after several heartaches and problems with bryce crashing my computer it's finished, well not really finished, just well you know, as close as I'm going to get it to finished because I have about 1000 other ideas that are yet to be realized... I didn't like how some things turned out in this image, but I still believe it's a technique worth investigating as it seems to have yielded a rather nice render. Maybe I'll do a tutorial on it if people are interested enough. Post a comment if you like, don't if you don't want to, and as always, happy brycing and be critical!
