Subject: Cutting down the number of materials in Poser figures

I've found a great app to render in, but there's always a catch. The catch is that it will only apply up to 16 materials to an object. How can I quickly cut back on the number of materials in a Poser figure? For example, I don't really need a separate material for finger and toenails, iris, eyewhite and pupil, etc. So long as the UV mapping remains intact, it makes no difference what the material is, right?

Well, there's 2 ways to go about it: 1- In Poser using the 'group tool', you can combine those mats. 2- (Simpler) use UVMapper & just select the mats & assign them to one. Just curious, what app is that? Marco

Blender 2.33a. The ambient occlusion feature is awesome. Stay away from 2.34, it's buggy.

Ah! That's the one i was thinking about... I haven't had a chance to test it's potential yet. So many projects, so little time... ;-) We have that feature as a Plug-in in C4D. Marco

It's sweet, and that suggestion worked like a charm. Thank you very much!

Try Grouper 1.4 (link provided) it'll help cut down the 16 texture references to something a lot more manageable.

Another useful little tip. I've a couple of freebie props which use a lot of materials, and cutting them down for my personal use would be useful.
