"wanker"? I guess the Brits have a way with words. Or is that a new American slang? The closest word in my dictionary is "Wankel engine". Maybe I should get a newer dictionary. 8-)

This is a job for urbandictionary.com! ___________________________________________________________ wanker While "to wank" means "to masturbate", the term "wanker" is seldom if ever used in British slang to denote "one who wanks". It is quite wrong to infer from somebody's being a wanker that they in fact wank (and vice versa), but of course, fair to assume they do in any case. Herein lies the genius of the insult: if you call someone a wanker, it's probably true, but only literally. I suppose it all originates from our repressed Victorian sexualities, from back when everybody thought they were the only ones to suffer the secret shame of being an actual wanker. Most children these days learn the word "wanker" long before they learn its literal meaning. Examples: You're such a wanker. Oh gosh! How did you know? He lost both of his hands in a childhood kiting accident. What a wanker! ___________________________________________________________

The only American program where you'll see the word being used is Buffy - Spike calls people wankers all the time!

The term 'Wanker' derives from the old idea that someone who masterbated to extremes suffered acute weight loss, a pale complextion, had bags under their eyes, a generally haggard expression and was aneamic. To call someone a 'Wanker' is to pour scorn on their (inferior) character and their less than healthy appearance.

Sorta another way to say you're yanking your doodle. LOL! The British were calling Americans wankers back in the colonial days with a song they made up, and we basically said "So what? Your point is?" by adopting the song as our own.
