I had been following this project for awhile, but apparently not with enough frequency. It appears to have been finished last December. If you're interested, there's a free model of Tsuyama Castle at this website (click the main attached link.) The modeller goes by "honey," although I'm not sure if that's their screen name here. I believe I recognize some of their images from the Renderosity Vue d'Esprit community. If I recall correctly, they've won some of the monthly Vue challenges. I've seen links to this site before for the nice Japanese household props that are available there, but have never seen anyone mention the castle model. It's easy to miss because the download pages are somewhat decentralized. You can download the entire castle model as one piece (.obj format,) textures are in a separate .zip file. The ReadMe advises that the model is low poly and is best for long-distance renders, but I found it to look very well in close-up renders. If you want a real challenge, you can download all of the component structures individually. There's a map at the page showing the proper configuration. The individual structures could be used by themselves of course. There are more Japanese buildings in the "Edo Street Series" section. honey's main page is [here.](http://homepage1.nifty.com/hakka/edo/index.html) Take a moment and enjoy honey's galleries, there's some gorgeous work there. Many people reading this have probably seen [this](http://edogoyomi.page.ne.jp/download/3dmodels/index.html) page. It has links to numerous Japanese-themed items for Poser, Vue, and 3D apps in general, including architectural construction elements, more buildings, traditional hair props, etc. many of which are Poser-ready. Lots of great stuff. Forgive me if you already know about this, I just think it's a particularly special and generous site, and wanted to share my enthusiasm with those who don't already have it bookmarked. Google "Tsuyama Castle" if you'd like to learn more about the real-life one, there's lots of information to be mined.

I just went to that site. It IS amazing!

I also went to the MAIN site, followed the Downloads link, then the Edo Street Scene... and found a GORGEOUS Edo period japanese shop (#1 of that series). Also, plenty of traditionsl Japanese hairstyles, and other similar products for FREE.

This is QUITE an excellent site. Thank you, sho-ko-NO-stlay ;) !!

One of my favorite sites. I love her Japanese hair props.

For those who can't read katakana, the main downloads page is here:

A good way to translate japanese (and other foreign languages) is Babelfish. It actually does a good job on japanese and chinese :o)

In the edo street part there is a small mistake where a link is underneath a picture, to get the shop 2, copy and paste the link below into your web browser. http://edogoyomi.page.ne.jp/edo_street/es_shop02.zip

xantor ( ) posted Sun, 22 August 2004 at 10:41 AM

The shop 1 is only just visible at the top of the picture, but if you click on it, it does work.

Wow! I'd forgotten about that castle! Thanks for the heads up! Amazing Work! This translator does a good job too with Japenese... Marco

xoconostle ( ) posted Sun, 22 August 2004 at 12:56 PM

The thing about online translators is that you sometimes end up getting sentences like "Of castle for other then courtesy to know, umbrella" and you have to really read between the lines to figure out what's being expressed. :-) xantor thanks for the fixed link, I hadn't DL'd the Edo props yet. I got to thinking, this person has an interest and pride in Japanese history, you don't see too many sites like that dedicated to Americana ... and then I remembered SAMS3D.

That's a great castle. I'm also impressed with Valandar, who has a reasonable grasp of Nahuatl pronunciation.

I am "HONEY" of Edogoyomi. Thank you for visiting and sorry for inconvenience about Japanese language. Someday - if I can get enough time - I will translate my page into English. And "Edo street #3" is coming soon. Kura(stockhouse) and Hinomiyagura(fire watchtower). Hatsumi

randym77 ( ) posted Mon, 23 August 2004 at 5:38 AM

Thank you for the beautiful models, Hatsumi. And your gallery is stunning. I didn't know Vue could do that!

It's good to know who you are here at Renderosity, Hatsumi. Your models are beautiful. It's kind of you to share them. Thank you very much!

Riddokun ( ) posted Tue, 24 August 2004 at 8:29 AM

i relaly like the streets... looks liek there was a huge work on the castle too... i wonder if my machine can handle all the parts loaded together in a scene :)

SpottedKitty ( ) posted Tue, 24 August 2004 at 1:43 PM

An excellent collection, and it's given me a few ideas for my next gallery picture. One query, does anyone know where I can find a traditional-style Japanese room interior — floor mats, wall panelling and so on? I already have the very nice Green Dragon Dojo from Daz, but it's a bit heavyweight when all I want is a close-up of the characters and just a bit of wall and floor in the background.

Riddokun ( ) posted Tue, 24 August 2004 at 1:44 PM

theres a "animatrix"like dojo in the RMP

PaulBohne ( ) posted Sun, 29 August 2004 at 6:49 AM

SpottedKitty: Guess RDNA has what you are looking for. There was something free some time ago.

SpottedKitty ( ) posted Sun, 29 August 2004 at 9:01 AM

Thanks for the reminder, Paul. I actually found that nice little Oriental Room scene in my collection of downloads (eventually). I used the floor texture from it in my latest Gallery picture, together with the screen with sliding panels prop from Honey's site. Looks great.

look in the Poser section at ExpandingWave for a couple of simple rooms. The detailed buildings are wonderful. (choose "smooth catalog" if you have a high-speed connection... better pictures) You will find some of Hatsumi's props here, too.

Thank you for all the lovely work. I noticed even more cranes. :)

Carolly, thanks for the link to ExpandingWave. I have been there before, of course, but I had never bought anything because it seemed to be a Paypal-only site. (I'm not a member and don't particularly want to be.) Your link led me to a page that says I don't have to join or be a member of Paypal to buy something there, just use my card as normal. Good news — maybe I will get those two room sets after all, I always thought they looked very good.

I have their lacquer writing box, and it is exquisite. I'm thinking about a couple of their buildings myself. Peaceful and nicely proportioned. But I need to finish the scene with the poet first.
