Ooo a door...how mysterious and spooky. :^) Actually this is really about the modeling at this point. The door will be open and the point of view will be closer and looking down the basement stairs into the darkness below. To repeat the purpose, when I was eight my family moved into a newly-built home and going down in the basement after dark scared the heck out of me. The lighting in the final will hopefully be spooky and atmospheric enough to get the point across. If not, well maybe at least it'll look fairly realistic. :^) Door and knob are Wings3D, the rest is Bryce primitive booleans.

This is not my "second childhood". I'm not finished with the first one yet.

Looks very realistic, excellent modeling on the frame/knob, also good textures. Could also have a creepy hand reaching under the door =).

Thanks, Ornlu. The textures are all Bryce procedurals except the floor which is a phototexture of actual linoleum tile. I've got to work on making the separation between tiles a bit more obvious. Love that old crappy green linoleum, not far from what was on our actual floor back then.

Great work so far. How about a glow coming from under the door?

I could never understand the horror movies. There's an unearthly light coming from the cellar and a ominous voice saying "DON'T GO IN THE CELLAR" and what do they do? I say they deserve anything that happens to them. Me, I'd run a mile. Just rendered this in Bryce. My god visible light rays take a while to render!

I hate to post my own images on others WIP threads, but I agree with drawbridge, have a creepy glow coming from the basement. and camera angles really can help to add that extra bit of suspense. but its lookin like you got a good start goin :-). this will be an interesting challenge this month

Those are great, but sort of the opposite direction from where I'm heading. I'm focusing on an eight-year-old's fear of the DARK, lol.

Just as scary. If not moor. A blinding light at least shows whats down there. But darkness... Not sure I'd go into a cellar in the dark.

well, you're gonna need a little light, if only to see the details of the stairs..maybe a ranged light, dimming out before the stairs end? (listen to this guy, he almost sounds like he knows what he's talking about..;)

You could always have a negative light un-shinig from the basement sucking up the light.

Funny you should mention that, liedele. :^)
