Without being biased which one is better? Bryce 4 or Vue? I have poser and i want a enviroment prog to go with it. And Vue is good but it doesnt do very well when i want to put things from poser into it. Which one is better? thnx

Hi Erik, I think the answer to this depends on your own personal preference. I own both programs, but never use Bryce. I've found that everything I want to do, I can do much easier and faster with Vue. :🤷: That's just my experience. What problems have you had importing objects from Poser? One of the things I like about Vue is how simple it is to import objects, including Poser figures. If your difficulties involve Victoria or Michael, read the threads below on this page because there are special tips for those figures. Crescent also has a tutorial (available from the Tutorials area here) for importing the Millenium figures into Vue. Someone is bound to be able to help you work the problems out, whatever they are. :) Varian -- Treasures d'Esprit http://www.varian.net/dreamview/dreamtools/vue/index.html

Hello Erik, after testing both bryce and vue with the available demo versions i've chosen vue as my renderer of choice. I just like the user interface with 4 views, the renderer seems to be faster and the materials dialog was more understandable for me. I've had smaller problems when importing figures from poser, but I managed to handle them with UV-mapper and 3D-Explorer. As smallspace stated here earlier, poser likes to export OBJ, Vue likes to import 3DS, although importing as OBJ works for me most of the time. Your figures should not share the same material though, otherwise you will not be able to map them differently.

I have both Bryce 4 and Vue 3, too, and I use them both. Vue does seem to render more quickly, and I agree that when it comes to changing materials, I think it's alot easier to do with Vue. Moving and selecting objects is easier too, because they're all listed in the World Browser, and you have the four views to work with. I use Bryce for some things and Vue for others. I think Vue's ability for generating realistic landscapes and vegetation is somewhat better than Bryce's. If you have to get just one, get Vue, but I think everyone should have both. Cheers, Mike

I have both but I've uninstalled Bryce. For me it's this: I LOVE the look of a bryce render...I think it produces beautiful results...but it's just too hard for me. Vue's ways of handling materials and object placement etc are much more intuitive, to me, and so it's FUN to use instead of frustrating. But I expect when I get a larger hard drive I'll reinstall bryce and try to learn more about it because I like those really crisp renders. MaryCanary

Could someone please give me a link to a demo of Bryce 4? thnx

If you have Poser 4, there's a Bryce 4 demo on the Content CD. Other than that, I don't think Meta Creations ever issued a downloadable demo for it, and I don't know if the new owner, Corel, has or will, but you might want to check out their website, www.corel.com I think that's there URL, but I wouldn't swear to it. Unlike the Vue demo, the Bryce demo will not allow you to save any pictures at all, and I think that anti-aliasing is disabled too. 3D World magazine had free copies of the full Bryce 3D program a couple months ago, and I'm sure you could order a copy from somewhere but I wouldn't know where. Yopu would be better off asking this at the Bryce forum, though, because I'm sure they would know more about it there. Cheers, Mike

Your figures should not share the same material though, otherwise you will not be able to map them differently. If you are editing the material using the Material Browser, it will change the material throughout the entire scene. But if you edit the material for a single object, the changes will be applied only for that object. So you can use the same materials on more than one Poser figure and map them individually. Just select the object in the world browser (the scene list to the right), and just above that, you will find the material editor for that object only. HTH, :) Varian
