Subject: Poser figures and texture maps

This subject has been gone over before, but it's worth mentioning again. :) If you export a Poser figure in OBJ, make sure the texture materials for that figure are in the same location as the exported OBJ. Then when you import the figure into Vue, the textures will be applied to the object automatically. My personal favorite: export the Poser figure as 3DS. When imported into Vue, the texture maps won't be applied, but you can open each of the materials and reset them for finding the texture maps. It involves a little tinkering, but I prefer this method because I only need to keep one copy of the maps, in the usual Poser directory location, and then just point to them for Vue's use. A wise person here recently suggested, too, that once you have a material set up with the texture maps, save the material as a Vue MAT file. The next time you add a figure, you can just grab the MAT and all the settings are in place already. Either way, any BUM files will need to have a copy made and then have its extension changed to BMP in order for Vue to recognize it as a graphic file. Please add additiona tips or details if this overview doesn't seem clear enough! :) Varian -- Treasures d'Esprit http://www.varian.net/dreamview/dreamtools/vue/

Varian, you can do that with the obj export, too. I find the figure naming works a little better for me in obj format--I tend to export multi-figure groups from poser (body, hair, clothes, prop). I remove all textures while in poser, then apply maps as materials in vue, so I can keep my texture files organized the way I like em. Here's a sample of my results... I SWEAR my in-depth mapping tutorial is on the way! :) Mary Canary

oops, I forgot, you can also use your regular texture map as a bump in vue, it will convert it to b&w and use it as a bump, hey presto. Okay, I suck, don't I? I should go finish my tutorial, shouldn't I? MaryCanary

Nice work, MaryCanary, O Wise One! :) Thanks for pointing out that OBJ can work as well as 3DS when adding textures after importing. I hadn't meant to imply it had to be 3DS...it sort of reads that way, I see now, but I hadn't noticed! Using the color map as a bump map is a great tip, too! Funny, I do that frequently, yet didn't think to mention it! Okay, now go finish the tutorial like a good canary...hehe! Looking forward to it! :)
