Here's my shot at translucency, but I get problems with smoothing the model. I have tried smoothing it several times, but I keep getting the same facetting like the model isn't smoothed at all... anyone know how to fix it?

Sharp bends at the knees and elbows have alway been a problem for me with Poser figures, especially the lower res ones, no matter what I tried (I call it "breaking up"). I just take care of it in postwork. I wish I knew a better way, Ray.

This is not my "second childhood". I'm not finished with the first one yet.

Not sure what the pose represents (and I'm not making fun), but it sure looks like she's rolling dice.

The facial expression is fantastic, full of emotion. Only you tjohn could think of a nekked woman rolling dice on the floor ok and maybe the Bryster too. Ray- Hope we get to see the finished product (and I know she's not rolling dice.) What I see is her in pain and despair thinking "why!?"

maxxxmodelz ( ) posted Mon, 06 September 2004 at 12:23 PM

"What I see is her in pain and despair thinking "why!?"" I see her pleading with her dog to stop peeing on the carpet. The translucency is coming out pretty good though. Without an underlying skeleton or translucency map, it's showing up in some undesireable places, but that's not your fault. Nice work.

Im with ang25 on this. Perhaps pleading with her love not to die (man I think I wokeup on the meloncoly side o the bed today eshhh!) dont work with poser as of yet sorry wish I could help:(

electroglyph ( ) posted Mon, 06 September 2004 at 1:29 PM

Bryce only smoothes reflected light. You need a light source and something in the diffuse channel to smooth. The good news is You can also smooth negative lights so in a sense you can fake an ambient side of a model with a light set at a minus intensity.

draculaz ( ) posted Mon, 06 September 2004 at 1:32 PM

send the model to me at mihnead@gmail.com and i'll smooth it for you in wings +take care of the problem. drac

violet ( ) posted Mon, 06 September 2004 at 1:55 PM

I can't help you with that...I solve that problem with postwork....but Draculaz made you an excellent offer..

Rayraz ( ) posted Mon, 06 September 2004 at 2:18 PM

yeah looking at it now. sorry dude, but i can't fix that sort of a thing. i mean what i had in mind were a few badly drawn faces, but this is just bad posing. i'll try to see what i can do, but from the looks of it, there's very little that can be done. try to re-pose it without going over the limits of the model. and yeah, you have a gmail invite in your inbox. drac

Rayraz ( ) posted Mon, 06 September 2004 at 5:16 PM

I don't know how to pose better then this.. I use poser 3 and I haven't found any options yet on messing with how joints deform and such. I noticed the right foot was in a kinda not very healthy position.. I might try to fix that, maybe it helps a little.

PJF ( ) posted Mon, 06 September 2004 at 5:17 PM

Unfortunately, it's more bad Poser figure than bad posing (unfortunate in that it can't be rectified so easily). The basic Poser4 figures are quite limited in the range of poses they can achieve before showing the 'strings'. Standing room only, pretty much. The DAZ V3 figure is much better in respect of high angle joint bending. It's not just a case of more polys for smoothness; it's better thought out joint parameters. As for the pose, surely it's obvious that she's just dropped her dad's Fender off the stage during a naked thrash-metal performance.

Hmm....sorry about your problem, Rayraz. :( Drac..what's this about a free gmail account? I'm always interested in alternative email accounts. :)

draculaz ( ) posted Mon, 06 September 2004 at 5:41 PM

gave all of them away, sorry =(

Rayraz ( ) posted Mon, 06 September 2004 at 5:48 PM

Ok....I'm a dummy here about gmail. I need to go see more about it this 'invitation' requirement.

draculaz ( ) posted Mon, 06 September 2004 at 6:08 PM

no it's just that it's still in beta stage so you won't be able to just sign up yet. every month or so they give out invites to all their members. so we're spreading the wealth. chances are that when you login you will have 6 gmail invites waiting for you. send them to your friends, etc. and poor ardiva =(

Ardiva ( ) posted Mon, 06 September 2004 at 7:39 PM

Awwww... I have plenty of other web mail places, Drac. lol

draculaz ( ) posted Mon, 06 September 2004 at 7:41 PM

not ones that give you one gig of hosting...

Ang25 ( ) posted Mon, 06 September 2004 at 8:02 PM

I'm confused, what does one gig of hosting mean exactly? I thought email is email and for hosting things like downloads was something you had to have a website for. Ok don't make fun of me, just confused is all I am.

ysvry ( ) posted Mon, 06 September 2004 at 8:42 PM

well drac if you get more invitations to send plz send me one i like to try this 1gig email

captor213 ( ) posted Mon, 06 September 2004 at 10:24 PM

Try turning on "Use Limits" in the poser options,Should fix it.

Jaymonjay ( ) posted Tue, 07 September 2004 at 12:33 AM

Gmail is great, I must say. My wife had a whack of invites she was handing out (here's where sucking up came into play, Rayraz :). So far I am quite impressed with the service. Its a hell of a lot faster than Hotmail, and Drac is right, a gig of space aint too shabby. Oh, and Drac? Thanks for the gratuitous crotch shot in your post. :)

Mahray ( ) posted Tue, 07 September 2004 at 2:12 AM

The gig of hosting refers to the amount of stored emails you can have. Most free email services offer between 5 and 10 Mb, after which emails start bouncing. 1 gig should be enough to let you keep all your emails on the server forever. Just think, you can keep all the spam you've ever recieved...

pogmahone ( ) posted Tue, 07 September 2004 at 2:27 AM

I've never used Hotmail, 'cos my daughter has a Hotmail account and I go bananas checking her e-mails for her when she's away on tour - takes forever to open even on broadband, and there's always trouble opening attachments, and when people send her attachments they get bouncec back to sender etc. etc. etc. ad infinitum. I have two Yahoo accounts, each with 100MB storage, one I use for 'proper' e-mails, the other I use for signing up to sites that might spam me. Yahoo filters all spam out into a bulk folder, and automatically deletes it after a month. I have to say that I think it's a great service. It also has a Briefcase, where you can upload files into various folders, and set different access levels to, so you can share files. Very good if you don't want anything too sophisticated.

shadowdragonlord ( ) posted Wed, 08 September 2004 at 1:27 AM

I've enver had a problem with Hotmail, ever. But it's still a Microsoft product... Blah...

Rayraz - I've had that trouble with the disappearing polygons in Wings, and when I've brought Poser models into Wings. It happens, I think, when a poly has been pulled too far around for the vertices to be able to compensate. If you bring the model into Wings (if you can't see it when you import it, Select All then scale by at least 1000%). Then home in on the problem area (if you select a vertex in that general area, then hit A on the heyboard the viewpoint will pivot around that point) and start pulling the vertices around, and the poly will (should!) suddenly appear.

When you've repaired all holes you can export out as .wav object. edit to add - sometimes adding an extra vert can help as well

There are two obvious poser mesh issues here. The first is the breaking due to the over posing of the joint. That can be fixed with some serious point (vertex), edge or poly manipulation (I do this in Cinema for my poser imports). The second is that sometimes poser gets mixed up on the polygon normals. Such polys can seem to be not there in the editor but will show in the render. However tis abrupt reversal of the normals in adjacent polys may cause a discontinuity in the phong shading process. This can be seen by sharp discontinuities in the texture along a poly edge. Such polys can be selected and have their normals reversed in C4D. I have to do this on accasion as well. Post work is the recommended solution if you don't have a mesh editor. (Post work may also be faster sometimes as well.)

Pass no temptation lightly by, for one never knows when it may pass again!
