Subject: interpretation of a pic!!(psychological way)

noboundariez ( ) posted Wed, 15 September 2004 at 6:21 AM · edited Thu, 21 November 2024 at 12:27 AM

Okay, just curiosity!! whenever i look at the gallery, im always wondering that what goes through someone's mind and what makes someone to render a pic like that way. huge boobs, snake with a woman or a strange pose that makes me feel weird...things like that. does that means something? what interpretation would you put on them? im guessing someone who rendered a woman with huge boobs must be desire or seek woman with big boobs in a real life too.

Snakes and enormous norks are a recent contest theme. I think that might have something to do with why you have seen such images. :) OTOH, a lot of guys like pics of women with large breasts. Me, I like any old size; they're all good. :D

...stepping out of psychology, the naked renderings are also so abundant because it's far easier to render a naked figure than to pose all the clothes in a satisfying way... so, that also adds some bias to the rendering 'types'.

noboundariez ( ) posted Wed, 15 September 2004 at 7:12 AM

hahah the old size rofl :P DANG thats why... the trends in ROSITY!! also im looking for any useful sources(books, sites, magz) that might be applied a theory to a picture. just like a white background for the pic means he/she likes pure things (?? not sure tho) or a sad facial expression means hes/shes happy at that time so he/she wants to be sad next time (?? no way ??)

stemardue ( ) posted Wed, 15 September 2004 at 7:48 AM

Hey, i had a glance to your gallery, and saw some different kinds of images there... Maybe you could start explaining those and their meanings, and then extend the theory to others' images? ;)

Art can tell you more about yourself than the artist, if you listen.

And sometimes a cigar is just a cigar. Alot of the pictures are a means of relaxation I suspect, and don't necessarily have a great cosmic meaning.

"Any old size" = Brit expression, simply meaning any size. From Twiggy to Chesty Morgan, boobies is boobies, and they're all nice. :)

"also im looking for any useful sources(books, sites, magz) that might be applied a theory to a picture." Any number of art theory books might help to offer insight into how to "read" pictures, although I tend to agree that most of what you'll find in online galleries may not bear the effort well. :-) I seem to recall liking writings by Clive Bell and Arthur Danto on the subject of aesthetics as a very young man. Self-education in aesthetics can be a life-enhancing thing, although ultimately nobody can tell you the best way to interpret a picture better than yourself. On the other hand, I reject the fuzzy-headed notion that "art is whatever it means to you." Especially in canonical art, there really is an issue of "significant content." This is all probably sounding incredibly pretentious to many Forum readers, but what the heck, nobounderiez did ask a question that I've never seen asked here before. :-) There are some folks, yours truly for example, who do try to imbue their humble Poser creations with a bit of what they know about archetype, classical composition, and popular icongoraphy. A couple of good "basic" books that may be of interest are: "Man and his Symbols" by Carl Jung "Ways of Seeing" by John Berger As regards cigars and their antecedents, classical psychoanalytical theory would probably postulate that the preponderance of megabreasts in Poser imagery has to do with ... well, the obvious ... deep-seated feelings of desire for nuture, maternal reassurance, relief from daily stresses and tedium, and the reproductive urge. Which is a fancy way of saying that Poser artists need to grow up. :-) But what fun would that be?

I suspect the beloved Naked-Vicky-In-A-Temple-With-A-Sword (NVIATWAS), lady with a snake, etc. is often just an indication of how many people were influenced by Frazetta and similar fantasy artists. You can go back even further to the jungle girl and other pulps and comics of the 30's or so, including of course Tarzan and King Kong. Well endowed heroine, skimpy costume, preferably ripped, large snake, jungle cat, monster or whatever menacing her - or getting suspiciously friendly with her. It's always been a sure sell. Anyone remember 'Happy Days' wholesome Erin Moran, naked, being molested by a huge slimy slug monster in 'Galaxy of Terror?' Sex, violence (bestiality?) - all kinds of deep Freudian themes in that genre. Still, I suspect that for every person who consciously strive for symbolic meaning, there are five who just try to represent their feelings, and ten who just do what strikes their fancy (or their libido) at the moment without thinking about it too much. The ratio's probably similar to the number of classical Freudian or Jungian therapists practicing today as opposed to behavioralists.

Excellent observations, lmckenzie! I don't think these sorts of things are all that mysterious. Why are the Lord of the Rings and Star Wars franchises so popular? Because we love getting in touch with the heroic, romantic, barbaric, dangerous, exciting, sexy, honorable, fantastic stuff that everyday life all too frequently keeps us at a distance from. Not that boobs are dangerous ... I mean ... you know what I mean ...

"Why are the Lord of the Rings and Star Wars franchises so popular?" Very true. From interviews I've read, Lucas is very aware of what he is trying to tap into. It's a powerful tool in the hands of the artist or even the modern political spin doctor. Hitler certainly used the ancient Teutonic mythos very effectively. But Hitler and demagoguing politicians are too depressing. I'd rather contemplate the deep symbolic meaning of tits 'n dragons mythology - with illustrations, of course.

Re: post #1 of this thread: (rephrasing) "Why do people render pics of females with big breasts"? For the same reason that papers/magazines that feature big breasts usually do fairly well: it panders to the predominant male "sex fantasy" image. And therefore (for the publications) brings in extra readers, which in turn keeps the advertisers happy. For the gallery-posters, similar effects start moving them up the charts. Like it or not, sex sells. As for the psychology behind all this, macho men like this stuff 'cos they can show it to all their macho mates, and they can all go "PHOARRR!!" without having to admit that they'd be intimidated by such a female..:-)) Also - check out all those fertility figurines from primitive (and some not-so primitive) cultures. Regarding Star Wars and LOTR - that appeals to the "little-boy fantasy" part of male nature. Underdog learns, gets better and better, and finally beats overwhelming odds (whilst still being wholesome). IE - put world/universe to rights. So it's just (male) human nature:-) PS. I am male. I don't like big breasts, and never buy the publications that specialise in them. But I do love sci-fi and fantasy:-) (I must be one of the few people here who read LOTR as it was originally being published! Sorry for the split infinitive..) Cheers, Diolma

lmckenzie ( ) posted Thu, 16 September 2004 at 7:50 PM

"PHOARRR!!" ? Let me guess, you're a Brit? :-) I love the differences in even idiomatic language. Down here in the southern USofA, it'd probably be "Hot Damn!" or "Gawd A Mighty!" I don't think the appeal is only to "macho" men. IN my experience, such things appeal to milquetoasts as much as to their more scruffy brethren. Sex - or more to the point, sexual fantasy, has, of course always sold. Women, in general may be inclined toward less visual representations, but at the same time, I doubt those romance novels would sell as well without the muscled Fabio types on the covers. I do think that all of this stuff operates on multiple levels and there can be multiple "myths" involved. The "boy conquers universe" myth is certainly one of the more obvious in "Star Wars." You have to dig deeper to reach the more spiritual motives Lucas has talked about. By the same token, beneath the obvious male conquest fantasies of erotic imagery, you get the old "nurturing mother" unconscious appeal of humongous tatas. At any rate, it's always fun trying to analyze it all. I mean, Vicky may have big breasts and be half (or fully) naked, but she's got a freakin' sword, and maybe a tiger who looks ready to do her bidding. Talk about approach-avoidance conflict - what's up with that?

@lmckenzie: "2p" is about what it costs for a couple of matchsticks. These days, box of matches costs 30p-40p, average contents usually 30-40 (used to be 50). It's cheaper to buy throw-away lighters...(regardless of the environmental effect of all that plastic being land-filled..) Cheers, Diolma
