Subject: GMAX again????

I know this has probably been asked before but I did a search and could not find the answer. How do you get a GMAX model into Poser?

First, you must convert the mesh to a format that Poser can read. Wavefront OBJ is preferable, although 3DS, LWO, and DXF are also options, depending upon your Poser version.

If you don't already have it installed, download the Tempest game pack plugin. This will allow you to export meshes in Quake 3 format. From there, you can convert from Quake 3's MD3 format to something more Poser-friendly using an application or utility like MilkShape, Ultimate Unwrap3D, or LithUnwrap.

Is GMAX worth considering as a modeller for Poser, given this export information? I know the price is attractive, but how like 3DS actually is it? Anim8or is beginning to show its shortcomings for me.

Interface-wise, GMAX is very much like 3DS MAX. In fact, I've heard it's a good way to learn the software before buying.

That's what I'd heard. On that basis, it sounds like a well-kept secret. I may try a little downloading, tomorrow...

gMax from my experience is great, it is basically MAX4 minus some features ( like render and particles ) have a look at http://www.dsmith.gmaxsupport.com/Essential_Tools.htm There are lots of programs there to use with gMax as well as a 3d exploration 1.5 for download. Which is great for file conversion.

The Dsmith site is a really good one. Plus there is a link to using a free version of 3D Explorer to convert files that Poser likes. Here is another good GMAX Tools website...
