Very, very soon, in fact. She's 99% done, just need to fix some very small goof ups and package her and she'll be ready. If she keeps her bottoms on, she's ready to go now.

Shian, a Wild African Dog texture for Little Dragon's Furrette 2.0.

Some of you may recognize that this texture is very closely related to Sheuen ;) The rest of you, wow, what a cool wild african dog texture! :D

And the headshot... Just noticed the neckseam's a bit off, too...

Looking forward to it, lhiannan.

Looks great! Will she need any tweaks to the ear and muzzle morphs, though? Wild Dogs do have pretty spectacular ears, especially. (And I just finally got the Serengeti environment successfully downloaded from DAZ...)

Looks spectacular :)

lhiannan ( ) posted Sun, 12 September 2004 at 9:38 PM

I couldn't dial a very true wild dog and certainly not for the ears. If someone wants to morph a better wild dog face, I'll add it to the package, when I release it, if they want :)

Little Dragon made Shian a new morph :) I think it's pretty great (hey, I can't create new morph targets well, so any morph is great... But this one IS great!) I'm thinking she'd do better to have white ear tips, adding character and noticability (with ears like that, they create a whole new level to body language). What to the rest of you think? I want to release her this week. Don't allow me to get lazy, because I will.

SpottedKitty ( ) posted Mon, 13 September 2004 at 3:03 PM

The head morph looks very good — will you include a tail morph as well? I'm having to jump through a few hoops with the existing vixen and skunk textures, getting the tail to look right. BTW, I've seen pictures of wild dogs in close to calico fur patterns, so white ear tips would fit in nicely. And yes, they can be used for a sort of semaphore. Sometimes the ears sticking up are the only thing you can see of a wild dog... =) I'm not sure if the whiskers are particularly noticeable, though.

Little_Dragon ( ) posted Mon, 13 September 2004 at 8:11 PM

I agree on the white ear-tips. The whiskers can be scaled or transmapped to make them less noticeable. I typically use a gradient transmap on them, myself. Or, if you want to get rid of the whiskers completely, they're separate body parts, so you can toggle off their visibility.

She's ready to go! She's also homeless :( I've put her in my temporary Tripod shelter, but that will probably end very soon (I probably used most my bandwith uploading her). Get her while you can! And then... wait... WARNING! The website is on Tripod! If you have a pop-up blocker, use it!

Many thanks - one can't have too many furries :)

Its a good point, upthread, about tails, and other details

Maybe just a few lines listing a set of sample morphs in the readme? I've used Fluffy Tail = 0.5 for a vixen.

I found this works for a tail that is thin but fluffs out toward the end (and the bend/spiral ect. will get you the pose that is pictured on Shian):

tail01 TailBroad 0.2500
tail01 SideSideAll 50.0000
tail01 SSide 15.0000
tail01 SBend 100.0000
tail01 SpiralSide -65.0000
tail01 Wave1S 20.0000
tail01 Wave1B -50.0000

tail03 BendBef -475.0000

tail12 pbmTailTaper 0.2500

tail13 pbmTailTaper 0.4000

tail14 pbmTailTaper 0.5000

tail15 pbmTailTaper 0.6500

tail16 pbmTailTaper 0.7500 tail17 pbmTailTaper 0.8000

lhiannan, try contacting SpiritWolf448, here or at PoserPros or 448Studios. He might be willing to host your file alongside the others, for the sake of completeness.

I'm preparing an accessory pack for release this weekend, assuming that my bandwidth holds out long enough to get the files to him. Here's a glimpse of two items included within:

Oh, and great work on the texture!

Lhiannan, those Shian textures are very nice-looking. I'm having problems with the morphs, though. Here's what I get when I transfer the Head and Ear morphs to a copy of the base Furrette .cr2 — looks like the eyes should also morph, but Morph Manager can't find anything attached to those parts. And I don't think she's supposed to look like an overdosed-on-caffeine chihuahua...

I've just looked at that carrier .cr2 as I twiddle the slider, and the eyes do morph. Strange. No extra or pbm dials on the carrier's eyes. Am I missing something obvious?

Incidentally, the MAT could do with one small tweak, make the cheek fur's Object colour very dark brown or black to match her muzzle colour (as above).

lhiannan ( ) posted Wed, 15 September 2004 at 5:39 PM

I had the eye troubles when I transferred the morphs to Furrette. If you set them to 70% and then LEye XTrans .001/REye XTrans -.001 (could be backward) and both YTrans -.005 ZTrans -.001, they're back in place. To be honest, I didn't dig deeper to find the eye morphs. Also, I used the Vixen Mat pz2 to set up the Mat pose for Shian (the fact that there's even a MAT pose provided by me shows somehow I got over a bout of extreme laziness - I'm about to leave my job in a couple weeks and I feel like doing noooothing). In my test renders, I'd used the paint bucket to fill the cheek fur by dipping some off the nearby muzzle. Same with the eyebrows & lashes. This weekend, when I am free, I'll see about fixing the package. Think of this as public-betatesting. :)

LD, those glasses are great! The skunkette especially is adorable.

Little_Dragon ( ) posted Wed, 15 September 2004 at 6:12 PM

Thank you, lhiannan. In addition to the glasses, I'm thinking of including contacts in the accessory pack, as a private joke.

The eyes don't have custom wild-dog morphs. Morphing them wouldn't be a solution, as their axial centers would remain unchanged, and any attempt to rotate them would pop them out of the eyesockets.

Instead, I used some ERC voodoo to automatically reposition and rescale the eyes when the head morph is activated. So you'd also need to copy the xTrans, yYrans, and Scale channels for each eye. I don't think this can be done with Morph Manager alone ... you'd have to copy-and-paste those sections with a text editor.

Might be easier to transfer needed morphs from Furrette to the Wild Dog CR2, instead. Only the Blink, Otter, and EyesSmall morphs use a similar ERC trick.

I should probably mention that the goggles were partially inspired by the eyegear worn by some of Style Wager's Hooda characters.

Just to let all concerned know, Shian has a new home at 448studios.com thanks to SpiritWolf448 :) I changed the MAT file to color the brows, whiskers and cheekfur to match the darker brown of her fur and reduced the resolution of the textures.
