I would ask this question on the Bryce forum section. There is a hidden easter egg export function in Bryce4.You can export most Bryce models out of Bryce, as long as they weren't originally created in Bryce. But about 80% of the Bryce models put in Free Stuff areas around the internet can be exported because they were made in some other program (like Rhino, etc.) You can also export most materials pretty well doing a 180 degree shot of it on a flat-plane. Wolfies-den did a tutorial on it. Ask about it in the Bryce Forum and ask where to find Wolfie.

The Bryce 4 FAq explains the quick and easy way to import figures and apply transmaps to your figures. KenPERVERS: Nothing accept movement. We animators really get peeved about Bryce not working in harmony with Poser animation. I would kill to be able to use Poser animations in a Bryce environment (other than overlaying with alpha-channels or green-screening of course) ... it's much faster and easier to use. Then again, who wouldn't! ;-) -Tim
That is really the best method based upon what can be done today. Think about how Hollywood does most of their shots- in water tanks and warehouse-studios. If you plan out shots, you can have nice animated Bryce backgrounds- rolling clouds etc., and still have full Poser foreground and character control. It actually works and looks pretty good if you match up the lighting, etc. I have made very large-scale landscape sets in Poser, so it CAN be done...
I've done this extensively, but getting the lighting and(especially) shadows to work is a major pain the butt. Also, it is EXTREMELY hard to make an interactive environment using this technique. Also, this technique pretty much only allows STATIC camera shots. If you move your Poser camera (like for a dolly shot, or a simple zoom) it immediately becomes obvious the background is JUST THAT ... a background. Now, it is POSSIBLE to synchronize both the camera in Poser and the one in your Bryce scene, but talk about difficult! So what it comes down to is, yes, you can do blue-screen/alpha type shots, but you are going to be very limited in the kind of shots you can accomplish. -Tim
Obviously in software costing only about $350 total (what Poser and Bryce currently sell for I think) you can't expect a Hollywood production package. It is too bad that MetaCreations didn't try to syncronize Poser, Bryce and RayDream (the reason I bought all of them was the concept that they were going to "integrate" them in the future...) Carrara didn't accomplish this either, so the opportunity has probably been lost. Only choice: work with what can be done for $350, or buy a Big Bucks 3D program...

Is it really impossible to export (or use) Bryce objects other than terrains in Poser? The other way, Bryce rendering of Poser figures seems to loose both details and colours. Any hints? bjarne@bjoru.com
