MINTY1974 ( ) posted Mon, 20 September 2004 at 4:18 AM · edited Thu, 25 July 2024 at 10:25 PM

Hi all. I just popped into the newsagents, bought a copy of this months Computer Arts magazine (It has a FREE copy of 'The Freak LE' and a whole lot of FREAK goodies with it) only to find that the 'FREAK BUNDLE' will not install!!! Has anybody else had any problems with this months CD? Tony.

Yes, go to the Computer Arts website and you can download a working version. It's a bit of a big download though :-S

Cheers Karen, I appreciate it. Have a good day:D Tony.

Been to http://www.computerarts.co.uk/ and can't find the working version! Do I need help or what? LOL

MINTY1974 ( ) posted Mon, 20 September 2004 at 4:47 AM

Right! I've found it. Thanks again for the help Karen. 61MB's!!! I'll be downloading it for a month LOL!

EnglishBob ( ) posted Mon, 20 September 2004 at 5:16 AM

It will also be included on the next month's issue of the magazine, if your connection can't stand the strain. It took me most of the afternoon on a 2Mbps connection, mainly because the server was so slow. A few other people might have been on there at the same time. :)

MINTY1974 ( ) posted Mon, 20 September 2004 at 5:33 AM

Yeah, I've given up already! LOL. I'm on dial up (still groan) and it would have taken 17 hrs, SOD THAT! Guess I'll wait till next month! Cheers for the help everyone. Tony.

xantor ( ) posted Mon, 20 September 2004 at 8:42 AM

I went to the computer arts site and still cant find the download link. I sent them an e-mail about a week and a half ago about this and they didnt answer it.

KarenJ ( ) posted Mon, 20 September 2004 at 8:44 AM

Xantor, look in the forums under the section "Cd problems" or something like that, and look for a thread called "Freak bundle".

Great! thank you, I found it. It is in the "The magazine" forum for anyone else having difficulty finding it.

artnik ( ) posted Mon, 20 September 2004 at 12:25 PM

I still haven't found it. I looked and all I saw was an offer to send a CD. What am I missing? Thanks.

artnik ( ) posted Mon, 20 September 2004 at 12:46 PM

Never Mind! I found it.By the way I use Get Right. I have dial up and it's a life saver. Check it out. It's great for huge D/L's. Most sites let you resume The D/L later. You can D/L while you're doing something else, on the computer or even when you're watching TV or something. It can be done a bit at a time, if necessary.

ookami ( ) posted Mon, 20 September 2004 at 12:47 PM

Thanks for the heads up on that! I went out to snag it!

MINTY1974 ( ) posted Mon, 20 September 2004 at 1:47 PM

Is Get Right free?

artnik ( ) posted Mon, 20 September 2004 at 2:43 PM

Get right is shareware. I believe they have a fully functional Trial, but with nag screens. I'm not sure, but I think the only restrictions are the nag screens. Of course, they could have changed it, by now. My version is at least 3 years old, but I stiil wouldn't trade it. Oh yes,at this point it doesn't seem to be compatible with AOL 9.0. I use AOL 8.0, when I want to run it. I'm not sure whether there are problems with other ISP's.

MINTY1974 ( ) posted Mon, 20 September 2004 at 2:50 PM

Cheers Nikki. I'm using th evaluation version on AOL 7.0 and it seems to be working ok. If I pause it, can I disconnect from the internet to make a telephone call without any problems? Cheers for all the advice so far. Tony

OK, I'm dowloading the bundle now. Can any one enlighten me on the following..which was in the CA forum on the bundle - _ "No, we wouldn't expect you to buy the magazine again this month just for the freak. Here it is to download (Warning: It is quite a large file) unzip and then run the freak.exe in the same file as the 020.cab file to install." Whats this 020,cab file they mention ?

MINTY1974 ( ) posted Mon, 20 September 2004 at 4:12 PM

I have no idea LOL! I'm downloading it now too.

xantor ( ) posted Mon, 20 September 2004 at 4:31 PM

The 020 cab file is included in the freak bundle download.

cedarwolf ( ) posted Mon, 20 September 2004 at 4:33 PM

Ok, I downloaded this monster and I can't figure out where the heck he's hiding on my hard drive. He's not in the DAZ People folder, I loaded M2 and tried to use the .inj and that didn't work...have I wasted an afternoon here? I thought he was a stand-alone beastie. Help, please?

MINTY1974 ( ) posted Mon, 20 September 2004 at 4:40 PM

I don't think the bundle from the website is the actual 'Freak' model is it? I got that ok from the computer arts magazine CD. They have placed this link because the bundle (clothes/props/textures) did not work on this months CD cover (or so I beleive!)

Bobasaur ( ) posted Mon, 20 September 2004 at 4:51 PM

Anyone know the difference between the LE and the full version?

Before they made me they broke the mold!

cedarwolf ( ) posted Mon, 20 September 2004 at 5:53 PM

Oh, crap! No Freak? I can't get anyone within 150 miles to order me the magazine, and without a credit card looks like I wasted my afternoon downloading the stuff. Man...

OneShot ( ) posted Mon, 20 September 2004 at 10:15 PM

Crap long download and no Mac installer, SIGH!

raven ( ) posted Mon, 20 September 2004 at 10:32 PM

The Mac version on the cd works, that's why there's no Mac installer.

artnik ( ) posted Tue, 21 September 2004 at 4:22 AM

So, before I waste a lot of time for nothing, does this include the actual freak figure or not? I have Mike so that's OK, but I didn't buy the freak because I figured I'd have very limited use for it since I already have the Behemoth figure from Sixus, for what little I'd use it. Anyway without the figure of Freak,it isn't worth the time. Does anyone know? Thanks all...

MINTY1974 ( ) posted Tue, 21 September 2004 at 5:16 AM

I downloaded the bundle last night. It does not include the actual Freak figure (as that was seperate on the original Computer Arts coverdisc). However, after downloading for 4 hours, hardly anything works. I installed the bundle (using the automatic installer) and nothing went to where it was meant to go. And after spending ages putting all the files where they were meant to be, 90% of the items still don't work! Keep getting error messages (for example: Cannot open Runtime/geometries/ToxicAngel/Freak_armor_top.obj) none of the inj morphs work and even though I can open up a texture and look at it it tells me when I try to render certain textures that they don't exist!!! Think I maybe asking for my money back from Computer Arts as it was the only reason I bought this months issue!!

KarenJ ( ) posted Tue, 21 September 2004 at 6:46 AM

I haven't tried using the bundle yet after downloading so i will try it tonight and see if I get the same problems. Minty, have you tried running Correct Ref over it? I wonder if it was a paths problem whether the stuff's there but just in the wrong place...

Correct Ref? Sorry to sound ignorant, but what's that? lol.

KarenJ ( ) posted Tue, 21 September 2004 at 8:41 AM

Correct Ref is a utility made by Hogwarden (Hogsoft). There is a freebie version and a pay for version (here at the MP) which does a lot more. It's a bit pricey at $35 but well worth it if you download a lot of freestuff... like me... and get really annoyed with missing textures, extra .rsr files, bump maps, etc. Anyway the freebie version checks your Poser file paths, ie you point it at a Runtime directory and it will check for missing textures in the files (works for cr2, pz2, pp3 and hr2 files) and you can either point it at the correct file path or set it to not use a map. One of those invaluable utilities that once you start using it, you can't believe you ever got along without it!
