I had this thread up already, and I am unable to find it now. (Dissapeared) The problem is I am on a project. Making a prop in poser, and I export it as an object file. Then I import again, adding fixing, and also adding the same obj file with the previous, to save work. Later I find my system slowing down, each time I import the Obj file again. The harder my system works in Poser. What can I do to fix this.

Looks like a good candidate for a PP2 file with repeated external OBJ.

PP2?

How do I make that?
This is taking alot of works and I thought sometimes will be best to repeat importing the Obj file. But I get a resourse hog...slowing down my system. Although I enjoy doing one new piece at a time.

you could import it the single group as a prop, save it as a prop, then reposition it accordingly and resave it as prop eg.. grass 1 grass 2 grass 3 etc.. each prop would load into an differnt positon via the x and y axis, perhaps even make some morphs for differnt shapes also.

This is what I have so far, which took me all day. I am in the plans for a whole lawn, even if it takes forever. But the problem is I am unable to get this far, due to slow downs on my computer. Even loading a figure like Vic3 is hard on the system. I need to fix this problem so I can go further. Asking Obj file professionals.

What's the polycount on each blade? Come to think of it, that doesn't matter. Building an entire lawn this way will kill just about anything, including dedicated workstations. Depending upon the scene you're trying to create, you'll probably have to take a few shortcuts. I believe "faking it" is the technical term. Use a few of those grass blades in the foreground as hero props, then fake the others in the distance with a mixture of transmapping and/or displacement (if you have P5). Years from now, when we all have desktop quantum computers, what you're attempting will be practical, but for now we have to compromise.

It is posible to do with dynamical hair in P5?

Dunno about dynamic hair but displacement certainly works.

No offense intended..but why not buy some grass over at RNDA or here from Ornlu or various other people here at RO. RNDA grass is low in poly count & you can make FIELDS of grass, and it's inexpensive( around 2.50). All is in prop or character format!!! This will save you HUGE amounts of time & your puter will like you better ;) Just tyring to help you save time & head banging LOL

Robo2010 ( ) posted Tue, 21 September 2004 at 8:26 PM

Their was no offense taken. Although I have been to RDNA and unable to find a whole lawn. I would sure like to see what your discribing with a link. I would have for sure purchased it already. I do not see any of this around.

Robo...go to RNDA & search under the word "grasslands". You will see lots of goodies :)...You won't get a FULL lawn, but within the grass packages you get small clumps & large clumps(some are dispersed over an area once you bring them into Poser) which can very easily be used to fill a lawn, not many clumps required. I use these in Vue/Poser all the time....keeps the polys low & my puter happy :). Looks like grasslands Vol 8....might be what you need...but there is a lot to look at. I'd provide the link, but the link goes directly the general catalog.

Hope this helps! Good Luck!

Yes, it can be done with dynamic hair.

Robo2010 ( ) posted Wed, 22 September 2004 at 12:31 AM

Oh wow!...excellent job!..Going to need a tutorial from you Little Dragon. :-)

Little_Dragon ( ) posted Wed, 22 September 2004 at 6:19 AM

Set the hairs' Root Width to 2.5, and play around with the Length Variance dial so they don't look so uniform. For something as short and stiff as grass blades, you can also reduce the Verts Per Hair to 8 or so, which will improve performance. In the pic of the ground plane above, I'd set the Number of Hairs to 2000.

Maybe its possible to got the grass bending under the shoes true collision detecting?

One way of "faking it" is with my Dial-A-Tile. This is what I came up with using an "off the net" tiling grass texture.

Robo2010 ( ) posted Thu, 23 September 2004 at 1:14 PM

Yeah..I was doing that to. Although sometimes I felt would be nice to have actual grass. Runtime DNA has grass. Didn't know. Thanks Roy.. :-)
